The auction mentions that it includes the lyrics to the songs Marrying Kind, Call My Name, Cinnamon Girl, What Do U Want Me 2 Do?, and Life 'O' The Party- I wonder if the remaining tracks are instrumentals?

Isn't Prince on a track on Lenny's new album? Is the album called "Funk?" I'm looking forward to it too!

Reflection, Musicology and On the Couch have lyrics. This may just be incomplete..

That's the new font.

Well, looks the same as the one on the NPGMC splashpage anyway.

This post may be better suited elsewhere but i think the insert now confirms my interpretation of the cover. heres why...

I'm a little surprised by the bashing on the cover (only a little) and no one seems to be thinking outside the box to find a message here. So in my own warped little mind here is my thougts on this...

1. No name on the cover is a move that shows confidence in his face being recognizable around the world. Very few Artist can get away with this and he is still relevant enough to do so.

2. The picture is same as that used to promote his tour which from a marketing standpoint makes sense to be consistent and recognizable to the "general" public.

3. It's very similar to the cover for The Hits package which is the last album he's had that created a stir amongst "new" fans. It's a look and feel that the public is familiar with and stands out to the average buyer in a wrecka stow. Those same buyers had no clue what Emancipation was about and probably wouldn't even get a concept cover like SOTT or ATWIAD. Those covers worked in the peak of his popularity because it was an album people came in and looked or asked for. As much as he is back in the public eye right now a cover that didn't immediately tell you it was Prince's new work just wouldn't make sense yet.

4. Lastly, about the branches. This is where i work outside the box a little but my very first reaction to it was this...the branches represent the History or "Family Tree" of music that he's trying to represent with this album. It was my first impression and since no one has come up with anything other than ITS GARBAGE, i'm going to stick with my opinion until someone brings something better (positive) to the table.

That all said i can care less come tomorrow night because i'm going to the Reno show and will be jammin to the new music right after...cover or not.

I agree. I think it may be to signify the 'organic' approach to music.

I am very happy for you that you're going to Reno tomorrow night. I'm avoiding the org from tomorrow night until Monday night, when I'll be picking up my copy at the Regal movie theater - I don't want to spoil any surprises in the show or on the CD.

Man, staying away from the org will be hard neutral

Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Actually since this is my first post on here and i usually see people get their opinions taken down piece by piece i figured it was a compliment that "cover is still ugly" is all he could come up with. lol

I thought the earlier post about the "organic" hit it on the head too...checking out the insert it does look to me like the "roots" of his musical inspirations is the message he is going for but i'd be the first to agree that maybe a picture of him standing near a tree or an image of a tree with the root's exposed and some images of J.B., Sly and ETW would have been cool too. I'm just not going to bash the guy for wanting to convey a message by saying his idea is stupid.

thanks for stepping up though...positivity on this site is always easier on the eyes.

Yes! I went back to save the pictures and discovered the aution had been pulled- so I guess there is some truth to it.

It was cool- but mostly made up of pictures we've all ready seen.

Well, it IS ugly. evillol

Look, it's not a slam on the center of Prince's precious little soul to say that this cover art is ugly (which, you know, it IS).

I think the portrait on the cover is GREAT.

I think the idea of the branches on the cover is great.

I think the execution of the background on the cover looks sloppy and amateurish.

I think the "Musicology" logo on the cover looks like something my grandma would make for an invitation to a barbecue.

In short, it looks like it took about 7 minutes to put together. It doesn't look like something that should represent a major comeback effort. Hell, despite the fact that NPG Records has slapped some butt ugly record covers on Prince albums over the few years, it doesn't look like something that should represent any prestigious artist.

And before you go throwin' the complainers gavel all up in my face, think of it this way: You could have a person in your life who's brilliant and inspirational, just a wonderful person who means the world to you. But damn if they don't have bad taste in neckties. Does their bad taste in ties make them a bad person? Of course not. In fact, it might even be an endearing trait. But the person's ties are still damn ugly.

I really like the NEWS album. Don't think much of the cover art or packaging. I'll even go so far as to say I really enjoyed flipping through the liner notes booklets of Emancipation and Crystal Ball, but ya know what? UGLY UGLY UGLY.

Design is not NPG's strong suit. What can ya do.
