10 reasons why Musicology album will be #1

10 Reasons Musicology album will go #1 (in no particular order):
1. People are sick of rap. (Even Jay Z figured that one out)
2. Prince is in the mainstream again.
3. He already has a hardcore fan base that have impact on first week sales
4. Nora Jones album is #1 (who knew?)
5. Street Cred with the Alicia Keys/Outkast endorsement + Jay-Z biting album titles
6. New found family-oriented Prince will jive well with FCC/Clear Channel's cleaning up airwaves crap.
7. Tour kicking off and will have built a months worth of steam by Album's release.
8. RRHOF got him in the minds of Tom Petty/Beatles/Traffic etc. fans
9. 'Musicology' single at radio
10. 'Purple Rain' Movie/Soundtrack anniversary.
and viola! 1984=2004

whatsurname

i know we are all tripping about this lead off single, but i really think for all the love that's out there right now for Prince, it will easily make the TOP 10.

i think the album has a serious shot at debuting at #1...

The key really is the second single! and of course we can't debate that until Monday. biggrin

but it's the follow-up in my opinion that will determine whether this album becomes a big hit.

no matter what happens, nothing can ever match 1984, nothing. Prince was bringing something new, cutting edge, different and amazingly, with mass appeal. Seems that 2004 is more of an appreciation for the old, at this point anyway, than an blazing introduction to the new. 84 was special indeed.

You are on point with that! My sentiments exactly! You see what happened with Santana. Prince thing is going to be even crazier because he still is fresh musically, stylistically; whatever else! There's also a whole 'nother generation out there that don't quite know about Prince and they have only been getting a real taste of Prince thru Andre and D'Angelo. So, to now hear the real thing completely blow everybody away. He's the source. He's deeper than just being a living legend, he's a cat that for the most part does not age in terms of being someone who can still kick everbody's ass with his live shows and musicianship! Everything is in divine order this year for Prince and I predict that it's going to be one of the biggest phases of his career. Nobody has done what he's done in his career, which is to become music royalty that has run his own ship since day one. His discipline is stronger than any artist doing big out there today when it comes down to being a dedicated artist. I can't wait to see the new edition of Purple Rain complete w/outtakes for the movie and album.

I think we'll have a clearer idea of that once we see if the single is doing well. It drops to radio officially on Monday right? The album drops less than a month officially. We've heard nothing about reviews or insider thoughts on the album.

What other musicians are droppin albums same time as P? Will people like Norah, Usher, etc. still be in the top spots by then? Most likely they will. I think the album will do well. But personally, I don't think it will crack top 10 at least not initially. Radio and video need to drive this. MTV, VH-1, and BET need to play this a bit. He should do some radio spots with the local DJs. Get Vibe, Rolling Stone, SPIN, Entertainment Weekly to review it. Perhaps the movie telecast will build some more public interest.

lol the people are sick of rap comment was kinda harsh but i think the biggest reason prince's new album will be number 1 is 'cause the industry needs some funk in it and he wants to go out on top.....rock hard and in a funky place!!!!smile

Sorry, but if Musicology is the best single he'll put out from this album, then it's gonna tank. I know your hopes are high, but the chances of this happening are damn near impossible. I think the "Best Of" album will still beat it.

This tour is gonna be HOT. I'm looking forward to hearing reviews from the first concert dates.
I'm gonna see him in Boston in August (and Canada if he comes).

The Isley Brothers album debuted at number one last year...and that one didn't even have a big hit single like their last one. I think the album, if properly promoted, has a very good chance of debuting at number one. But in this day and age, that doesn't mean it wil stay on the charts or that it will be a good seller. I know I'll be one of hte people adding to the total of albums sold.

Rave un2 The Joy Fantastic anyone? I remember everyone (including myself) thinking that was his big return. He had the "santana" thing going w/ Eve, Gwen, Chuck D, Maceo -- and it debued at #12 I think -- but no higher. He was also on TRL and all the late night shows. Granted, he released the most non-commericial track w/ the GRES instead of "baby knows" or even 'So far so pleased," but I'm not getting excited about a #1 debut till I see it -- let's hope I get proven wrong!

The first single is not always the best . . . look at SOTT, it's a great song, but there are SO many better ones on that album.

Exactly, SOTT is a great song. Musicology on the other hand, sucks dick. If the song were good at least, then I'd be more optimistic.

True, EWM! And even if this thing DOES debut in the Top 10, it'll only be there for about a week...two tops!! He's GOTTA come with something tighter than this mundane, unmoving, boring-ass track called Musicology!

hmmm

the only kink in this plan is that everyone who goes to the shows will ALREADY HAVE the CD. If there's nothing different on the retail version, who's left to buy it?
