I know some folks are going to disagree with me, but this song was undesirable. Prince and Madonna just don't sound very good together.
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

"Love Song" is a great song, with a mesmerizing arrangement and vocals. But it is kinda repetitive and probably could have used another verse or two.

My favorite part is the ending, when Madonna sounds pissed off as she tells Prince...

"Don't try to tell me what your enemies taught you....I'm gone, but I just want you to know....that this is not a love song that I want to sing"

Yeah, I like the song. It would've been better if Madonna kept her mouth shut though.
Strange, but I'm more comfortable around you naked.

I think it's a good song, I like the attitude in it.

I also like those extra little touches like the self centered "What?"'s, and the funky Prince guitar licks scattered throughout.
The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

"You still wanna take me to prison...just because I won't trade humanity for patriotism."

No Sir, Didn't like it. Loved the rest of the album...at the time. I still skip over this one...it sounds so painful. I was really disappointed too . You’d think it would have been better or something considering who worked on it. Definitely has Prince all over it. But for the 1989, you’d think it’d be closer to his other stuff he was putting out. I mean considering...a collaboration like that could have been created a huge single...easily. Plenty of singles came from that album including (shudder) cherish...why wasn't this one picked?

Sorry if I offended...I just didn't like it and still don't. Just my opinion.

Surprised Madonna never returned the favor...at the time, she could have been in Graffiti Bridge. Imagine the possibilities!

nod with Prince saying "Don't go!" in the background of that line.

my favorite part is this:

Don't [wait]

Time goes by so slowly for those who wait
And those who run seem to have all the fun
But am I wasting my time [she's so fine]
Are you just being kind

and I also like this:

Embrasse moi [what?]
Am I losing my mind
Pour la dernière fois
Yeah

So yeah, for me, and my Prince/Madonna loving ears I definitely say underrated.

Although I haven't heard this song since 1994, it has a special place in my heart - and I do remember liking it back then, as I played it on a jukebox on the first date with my now husband...

I always liked it, but don't think that it is a really great song.

The song is difficult and contrary - and that's the point. Prince didn't want "Love Song" to be a hit. He knew Madonna had plenty of hired-gun "hot" producers for her album, and he certainly wasn't going to write a hit for her. He wanted to challenge her. The song was almost a "dare," as in, "I dare you to put this on your album." He wrote it with that kind of attitude.

He wrote the basics and they collaborated using phone and mail. They were never in the studio together, and it's reflected in the sound...cold, alienated. It's effective, it speaks in disjointed miscommunication, the same way (some) ex-lovers speak to each other. Awkward, self-conscious, reaching for words and not finding the right ones.

It's arch, and brilliant. It's not pretty, but it's a great song because it uses words, sounds and strange melody/harmony composition to express exactly what it's trying to express.

It was a dissapointment.

The song is OK...but when you join 2 megastars like Maddy & Prince on a collaboration, you expect it to be EXCELLENT (not just OK).

...actually the song reminds me a little of Paradise Gardens by Sheila E.
By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

i love it, in fact i was singing in my head last night.

i love the backing track - it's kinda creepy but has a reserved fonk to it.

and i like the way P and M play off each other's vocals but it feels like they aren't even singing to each other.
