Prince Covers

Does anyone here hate the fact that Prince covers other artist songs? I do not think someone of Prince's calibare needs to.

What do you think?

Whoa, I love those covers. But generally I agree with you. Every Day Is A Winding Road was VERY bad, in my opinion. I think he lost something special when he started covering songs on his studio albums. Not many people go that long without covering someone.

I don't too much care for the covers on Emancipation. Prince's best covers are usually always done in a live setting anyway - that's usually where he reinvents things like "Just My Imagination." But I'm not sure the caliber of artist has anything to do with eschewing covers. It's not that he needs to do it, it's that he wants to play some of the material he likes that just happens to be by other recording artists. He's not the only person on earth who has ever written great songs, yaknow.
This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

Well, Don't have anything against his version of "La la la... means" but he certainly destroyed "I can't make you love me" and "One of us" on Emancipation. mad
George Michael did a great version of the I can't... in the MTV unplugged though.

And sorry, but his version of "Nothing compares 2 U" in The Hits is not the best... I prefer Sinéad's version.
"America is a continent..."

Prince and the NPG could do a killer version of "Vehicle." That song that goes, "I'm the friendly stranger in the black sedan."

It's got all the horns...big guitar solo....this song would rock live with Prince doing it...
