Okay, so maybe it's funk, but it's certainly not particularly successful funk, in my opinion. Funk shouldn't make you worried that someone else might hear what you're listening to and realize what a pussy you are. wink

Name some other songs like this you're talking about...do you think When U Love Somebody fits in there?

How about the first song on GCS2000? wink I swear to God I had this in my car for some reason and my boyfriend saw it and laughed his ass off, and then I put it in to be funny and that song was blaring "We been waiting, for so long! Waiting to sing for you, some of our songs!" and he goes "Aren't you ashamed to listen to this shit?"

Hehe. It was cute. You had to be there, Eyebrows. wink

I luv the funk, the soul & the groove. Just cause white people can't dance like black people can and we don't have the funky black curlyl hair doesn't mean we don't groove to the same beat.

and neutral some of them are dancing as well as black people lol

OK, you guys take every single word way too serious. Like I said in a post above, I didn't mean to generalise everyone. I wasn't implying that white people can't dance... please take my words with a grain of salt. razz

LOL! That's exáctly the funk I'm talking about! That's why are started this whole thread! We March totally falls under that category and When You Love Somebody too! I think the end of WYLS is só funky! A lot of Prince fams don't even know it, but it rocks! (Except for my friends ofcourse!) Trust is another song I'll never expose my friends too! I'm not ashamed for liking that song, but they just wouldn't understand..! wink Or Wonderful Ass, or I Wonder, or 200 Balloons or Good Love or However Much You Want or Sex In The Summer (have you listened to the end of that song? FONKEY!)...

But when my friends come over, it's all about Days Of Wild, The Undertaker, Family Name and Get Off! But every now and then when I get something new, I can't control myself and have my friends listen to it, but most of the time they don't get it... Some of them actually like Musicology though, I'm glad about that!

I'm not dissing it, I really like the live version on 'It Ain't Over'. I just mentioned it because the people who really like those kinds of songs, don't care about funk. That's all.

I'm talking about the funk that sounds a little gay (eventhough I'm not!),

ill lol Love it!...I know what ya mean by "sounds a little gay", I like that stuff but I prefer the darker, heavier funk of Sexy MF and Days of Wild. In the same way I prefer James Brown to Sly stone...though I love them both. Oh and I love Joy in Repitition and songs like that too. It doesn't have to be one or the other, just cos you like funk don't mean you can't appreciate a well constructed ballad or pop song. I dig it all.....alright, except for "I rock therefore I am"...Prince should have left that little number up his A-hole where he found it.

I ask this question because I've never come across a fellow white dude that had the same amount of funk in his/her blood that I have.

I mean, a lot of people here are already dissing Musicology and it's not even on the radio yet!
Probably the same people who only like songs like Little Red Corvette, Condition Of The Heart, Joy In Repetition or 3 Chains Of Gold.
I really don't care for those songs. I respect them, but they do nothing for me.

I LOVE THA FUNK!
And I'm not talking about songs like The Ride or Xenophobia. Those songs are not funky to me. Too boring. I'm talking about the funk that sounds a little gay (eventhough I'm not!), like We March, It, Vicky Waiting or Emancipation.
I love funky live jams like 1+1+1=3 or You Know You Got Soul (live @ Nighttown, Utrecht 2002).

Can anybody relate to this? Or am I the only one..

My username could be some indication. cool

if that's the kind of funk you mean, over stuff like Xenophobia and the Ride, then no... I guess I don't REALLY LOVE funk. but i don't think think that speaks badly of me. i like funk that is good. We March and Emancipation? puh-lease.

you like funk-tinged pop, my friend. and there's nothing wrong with that. i love Vicki Waiting, but i'd never in a million years label myself a funk fan because of that song.

if those are the 3 songs you're going to throw up as the epitome of funkiness, and then say you don't know any white people with as much funk as you, then you need to go back to the drawing board.

Perhaps you really ought to meet more white dudes (I'm sure that there must be some living in your area).

And why do some people, whenever they mention the word 'gay' follow it up by assuring us all that they aren't gay?

Nobody cares whether you're gay or not, but clearly it bothers you that somebody might think that you are.

Oh come one! You know what I'm talking about! I'm talking about the horns in Make Your Mama Happy for example. Now if I hadn't said that I wasn't gay, some straight people might have wondered if you have to be gay to appreciate that!

Besides, you thinking that it botheres me if people think I'm gay, is telling me that you probably are gay... (Not that I mind wink)

Er, yes I'm gay (As I've made it very obvious in the past on this site). And yes, I still say that your original post clearly shows that it bothers you that people may think that you're gay.

'Now if I hadn't said that I wasn't gay, some straight people might have wondered if you have to be gay to appreciate that!' Erm, that doesn't make any sense at all confuse Again, you're saying that being gay has some kind of bearing on your opinion of music.

Could you explain how the horns in 'Make Your Mama Happy' are gay? In what way are they gay? Do musical instruments have some kind of sexual identity?

If you know anything about gay culture (which you clearly don't), you'd know that Prince has never been regarded as part of that culture, ever. He's neither camp, nor iconic enough to warrant the honour. It's ironic, considering that Under The Cherry Moon is unbelievably camp, but ultimately, the man himself has never showed anything anywhere near approaching truly gay. His cross-dressing (if you can call it that) in the Lovesexy Tour Book was just a straight man having a bit of fun. And there's nothing wrong with that.

Incidentally, when I first heard the term 'metrosexual', I smiled because the first person I thought of that fitted that description was Prince.

LOL! I actually cán appreciate a well constructed ballad. I love One Nite Alone, Call My Name, Soul Sanctuary, When We're Dancing Close & Slow and Pink Cashmere for Example. But I can find good ballads with a lot of different artists, but only Prince knows how to make it funky for real!

I picked those songs because they seem even less popular than simple, straight forward funk songs. Even by Prince fams. Probably because there's something in those songs that people are ashamed to admit liking, that for lack of a better word sounds 'gay'. More examples would be; Wonderful Ass, I Wonder, 200 Balloons, Good Love, However Much You Want and Sex In The Summer. So you have to REALLY LOVE FUNK to be able to admit you love those songs.. wink

well I'm gay, and have no problem with anyone knowing it, but i dislike 2 of the 3.

you don't really have to love funk to admit you like those songs. they aren't that funky. in fact, one of them (Emancipation) wants so bad to be funky that the fact that it isn't is pathetic.
