Marrk said: since when's Vicki Waiting and We March funk?
Check Head, Dirty Mind, DMSR, We Can Funk (obviously), Let's Work and Erotic City. That's Funk. While you're at it, just cause it's not funk, don't be dissing JIR either!! I'm white, and I Funk. You're right, your examples are very funky, but in a very obvious way. I purposely picked a couple of songs were you really have to be a 'groovy base-line with a sharp snare and covered with harmonious synth-chords' kind of person to appreciate thát kind of funk! And for everybody who thinks I'm some sort ignorant fool who doesn't think there aren't any funky white people out there, I don't believe that at all. It can't be, because that would mean I got adopted by my white parents and got infected with the same skindisease Michael Jackson has! I just never met any white people who like the same kind of funky music that I like. More examples? - Push - Shockadelica - The Rest Of My Life - Hide The Bone - Batdance (2nd half) - Joint 2 Joint - Mountains (extended) - Do Your Dance - Sexy Mutha - Partyman - My Medallion - Y Should Eye Do That When I Can Do This - 319 - A-U-T-O-matic - Elephants & Flowers - Musicology

What a coincidence! (I'm not.) I was reading through this thread and noticed a reference to the Onion. Then I remembered that there was something in the paper that I was meaning to read. There's a story in it about the Negro Leagues making a comeback and Ken Griffey Jr. being signed to the Atlanta Black Crackers! (Actual Negro League team.) Thank's for the reminder's otan and Anxiety! Okay, that had nothing to do with funk....

I luv the funk, the soul & the groove. Just cause white people can't dance like black people can and we don't have the funky black curlyl hair doesn't mean we don't groove to the same beat.

you say you love funk...
but you didn't mention D.M.S.R. which practically has a PhD on the subject! and what about... Head Let's Work Lady Cab Driver Erotic City DAYS OF WILD Controversy Race The Work Irresistible Bitch ...to name but a few If these jams don't beat Vicki Waiting, It and We March in funkology, then I think your Funkometer is need of repair.

I ask this question because I've never come across a fellow white dude that had the same amount of funk in his/her blood that I have. I'm talking about the funk that sounds a little gay (eventhough I'm not!) Perhaps you really ought to meet more white dudes (I'm sure that there must be some living in your area). And why do some people, whenever they mention the word 'gay' follow it up by assuring us all that they aren't gay? Nobody cares whether you're gay or not, but clearly it bothers you that somebody might think that you are.

I'm talking about the horns in Make Your Mama Happy for example. Now if I hadn't said that I wasn't gay, some straight people might have wondered if you have to be gay to appreciate that! Besides, you thinking that it botheres me if people think I'm gay, is telling me that you probably are gay... (Not that I mind )

Whoa, Emancipation? That ain't funk...I dunno what that is, but I guarantee you it ain't no funk, gay OR straight. I love the funk on tracks like Billy Jack Bitch, Feel U Up, We Can Funk, Databank (Prince's unreleased version) ... But then again, in my mind Prince has a whole 21st century set of "funk" songs, like Y Should Eye Do That? and Silicon and Daisy Chain... No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

I ask this question because I've never come across a fellow white dude that had the same amount of funk in his/her blood that I have. I mean, a lot of people here are already dissing Musicology and it's not even on the radio yet! Probably the same people who only like songs like Little Red Corvette, Condition Of The Heart, Joy In Repetition or 3 Chains Of Gold. I really don't care for those songs. I respect them, but they do nothing for me. I LOVE THA FUNK! And I'm not talking about songs like The Ride or Xenophobia. Those songs are not funky to me. Too boring. I'm talking about the funk that sounds a little gay (eventhough I'm not!), like We March, It, Vicky Waiting or Emancipation. I love funky live jams like 1+1+1=3 or You Know You Got Soul (live @ Nighttown, Utrecht 2002). Can anybody relate to this? Or am I the only one.. Don't you find that your nose grows when you bust shapes to Vicky In Waiting? [Pinocchio Theory Edit] [This message was edited Sat Mar 27 14:54:17 2004 by Taureau] ..... BULLSEYE!
