I think it's pretty obvious I'm going for "Toxic" - at least that one's bringing the "good old real music" back.

Tho I tend to hate all that bullshit singers like Britney put out, I'll have to agree that "Toxic" is how pop music should sound. It's a great song.

BUT, I am a funky man, so I'ma go for "Musicology". It's not a better song, but it fits more my style.

Musicology isn't a pop song, so how can the two be fairly compared.
My vote is for Musicology of course.

Toxic has a great hook, it's really catchy.

Still, I'd much rather relax and listen to Musicology.

I can see it lasting much longer as a song for me than Toxic.

Toxic is shite, I'm sick fed up of all that 'great pop song' pish. Its bollocksio, and Britney is a talentless boot.

So Musicology biggrin

This is definately one of the weirdest comparisons i've seen... theres not much in common between these two songs.

But ill go for it

Im not too impressed with Musicology, and i dont believe it will be a hit.

But im even less impressed with Toxic. I like the song, its really catchy and all, but i just hate the way it sounds, especially the vocals... the song should be called Plastic. The vocal sound is so over-produced, totally lifeless. I hate that, and they do it a lot nowadays. IMO the song is killed if the vocals sound dead. And in Toxic they do.

Whereas Musicology at least sounds good, though it could and should be much more organic-sounding. But I like the sound of Prince's voice! Warm and intimate...

I love Toxic.

Love the video also.

Musicology is only for those that like that bluesy, funky, kind of stuff. It's not geniune Prince for me.

I really miss Prince, I hope he starts incorporating some sounds that remind one of his earlier stuff. Now, let me clear that up, I don't want him to mimic the exact sounds nor sound alikes, I just wish he was a little more funk-popish like he used to be.

toxic is catchy, no doubt, and the best thing Britney's put out for awhile, but you're right about the plastic sound killing it...it sounds too much like an ad for soda pop

Hard-core Prince fan here, and one of longstanding status. Never have been one to think that this Spears girl has any real talent (and I still don't). BUT.....Toxic blows Musicology away. Completely away.

toxic has more "pop" lyrics and theme and beautiful production.

"musicology" has got a catchy sound to its rhythm, but its lyrics are too much into prince world to have youngsters identify with it.

Toxic is a million times better, without a doubt. It's catchy, fun, and listener friendly. Musicology makes me wanna shit.

I like Toxic better. This is not a credit to Britney, but rather to her producers who made it happen FOR HER.

My vote is for Musicology. By way, how many instruments did Britney play on the song? Did she write ? Did she produce it? Man, she's so versatile and talented. How long has she been doing it for now?

This isnt really about the musicianship of either song or who looks better, I personally think Musicology sounds like a loop from a "How to make Funk!" sample CD...

This vote is purely which song u like better.

That instrument on Toxic is SCREECHING...I can't listen to that song.

Musicology is fun and funky, what's not to like???
Don't you like the feeling music gave ya, back in the day?
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I like "Toxic" (it's catchy), but I have to vote for "Musicology". I can't vote for "Toxic" for the same reason I have yet to buy one of this chick's albums, because it makes me feel like I'm helping destroy what music is supposed to be about, and that's artists who at least try to sing without lip-syncing to 98% of the song. Even if Prince makes complete crap, it's still better than anything that Britney Spears puts out, because he actually puts a lot of passion and effort into it. Even though it was the producers and songwriters who made this song, and the majority of her older songs, popular, Britney always seems to be getting credit for being an artist. eek Artist my ass! That girl is a mindless puppet who wouldn't be anything without the choreographers, make-up artists, fashion consultants, top notch producers, songwriters, and the hundreds of 14 year old and unders who made her a millionaire...she's everything music shouldn't be. She disturbs me greatly as do the millions of people who admire her for her "talent" (or lack there of). She's just a horrible Madonna knock-off. Okay, rant over....my vote is for "Musicology" over "Toxic"....shoot, I'd vote for a cat coughing up a hairball before I give a vote to Britney Spears.

The music back in my day was Thriller, 1999 & Purple Rain, and Like A Virgin . .. funny how these 3 artists are all the same age, and get compared a lot to each other . . .

I had the best musical re-awakening in the Spring of 2001 - I bought all of Stevie Wonder's remasters at once, and was awestuck. Damn. I'm gonna go listen to them right now!

Question: is that bass/guitar intro to Musicology original, or is it sampled from something?
