Basement Jaxx + J.C. Chasez = Loose! I've only just heard 'Plug It In' from Basement Jaxx's "Kish Kash" album featuring J.C. Chasez. Its being released as a single in the UK on March 29th...
If you haven't heard it, click here: http://www.cissme.com/bgr...-01_56.ram and take a listen (this is the extended remix). The production, the arrangement, the whole fucking vibe is basically 'Loose!' from the "Come" album. I'm not saying its musically identical but if you hear it, you'll know what I'm saying. I don't dislike it (in fact I love it) - I'm just amazed that Prince's influence has extended from his early years to his 90's output. When most artists cite Prince as an influence, they usually mean his megastar years between 1980 and 1988.

funny you bring this up....
i think the "Right Here is The Spot" on the Basement Jaxx (track 2) is totally riffing on Prince. I think the bass line is based on or a direct rip from "All The Critics Love U in New York".... and then when they start to chant "You can dance if you want to" and then respond with "delirious"....that caught my attention the very first i listened to it.....feels like the song could have been a lost track from "1999" i always thought "Plug It In" had a more Michael Jackson flavor to it...

Loose was based around early 90's Euro Rave with the infamous 'hoover' sound, think Joey Beltram was the originator of that sound...

Yeah I know, but the way that the retro-techno stylings are coupled with the hollering and the conversational phrasing of the lyrics is pure 90s Prince. The falsetto at around four minutes into the track is trés Prince-esque. Here's a nice picture of Mr. Chasez - I never cared for N*Sync, but I think I'm now an instant fan of his.

All Day Long I Think About Sex from JC's album is a nice slice of electro-pop, very Gary Numan influenced (sounds a little like that 'Discovery Channel' song from a few years ago). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm a sucker for a major chord

Have you read the lyrics to 'Come To Me'? The man seems permanently horny... "Come To Me"
Traveling the galaxies on telepathic roads Singing in the distance, clouds of breath out in the cold All of my desires waiting for someone to hold So come to me So come to me, ooh Lying here pretending that you're closer than you are Swear I heard you whispering "would someone break my fall?" Memories of kisses from the dreams until the dawn So come to me So come to me The nights when you don't call My life is a catastrophe I need to feel you close to me I'm waiting out the storm Cause when I'm all alone I imagine I am face to face Inhaling every breath you take I'm waiting out the storm I'm waiting out the storm Conversation hotter than a fireman engulfed Sweeping through my body causing temperatures to smoke Every second passing makes it hard for me to cope So come to me So come to me Walking with my fingers and I'm creeping down real slow Reaching for the places that no one could ever go Pushing me to ecstasy, you touch my very soul So come to me So come to me, yea Thinking of you What can I do I'm thinking of you Cause when I'm all alone I lay awake and masturbate I love to hear the sounds you make Baby here I come Baby here I come Come, come Waiting, waiting I know, I know You'll come to me You'll come to me So come to me So come to me So come to me So come to me Whatsurname is completely correct about the 'All The Critics Love U In New York' "influence" on Basement Jaxx's 'Right Here's The Spot'. Its more than a passing nod - its like a blatant wink!

Wrong Forum! I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!

How so? I was pointing out the influence of Prince's output on other artists' music... J.C. Chasez and Basement Jaxx are (evidently) heavily influenced by Prince. If this topic was about Lenny Kravitz's latest haircut, then it would be off-topic.
