Do You Think Prince Prefers Leno Over Letterman? He's done Leno more than Letterman.
He's even engaged in practicle jokes with the big chinned talk show host. Why is that? Does he feel more comfortable with Jay? Does Letterman rub him the wrong way? Your thoughts? |

Letterman's wonderful schtick as the crotchety old-timer lends itself to too much needling for Prince's taste. I'm pretty sure the Dolphin incident (Dave leaning over a prone Prince at the end, "You all right?") -- which I thought was hilarious -- was the final straw with Prince. Leno's much more congenial (read, "passive") with his guests. I wish Prince would return to Dave's. I have more respect for him and Paul than I do for Jay and Kevin. Paul and his CBS Orchestra are the bomb.

It probably has something to do with the ratings as well. Jay pretty much kicks Dave's ass in the ratings on a nightly basis, so being on Jay offers him just a little more exposure. Plus, it seems that Jay's more of a fan of his than Dave is.

I like both Dave and Jay, but I don't think Dave knows enough about his guests and what their latest projects might be. He doesn't seem interested in what his guests are doing and what they're there to promote. Jay on the other hand, seems to genuinely enjoy Prince and his music and he seems to relate more to his guests. Just my

Leno is way more non-threatening than Letterman and will never challange Prince's image in any way. We all know Prince is a control freak and he'd never put himself in an interview situation where he could be made fun of too much. A little ribbing he can take, but Letterman's sarcasm is too much for him, I think.

I recall seeing Prince on Letterman doing Dinner With Delores (I'm guessing WB forced him to do promos for Chaos & Disorder) . . . and after the song was over, he snubbed Dave and walked offstage. Then Dave spent the rest of the night making little jokes about Prince and the symbol. I'm guessing they aren't exactly friends. By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

Jay Leno Respects Prince and is a Fan of his like Bryant Gumble. Prince goes where he is appreciated.
