Where is the bridge in Musicology??

I keep on waiting and waiting and waiting for the song to take me to the next level and it doesn't. Why? It's missing a bridge. Hear me out. The beginning 2 verses set the song up perfectly for a bridge, yet there isn't one. Why Prince? Why did you do that? Prince knows the power of a bridge--take, for example, "Kiss" when Prince belts "Little Girl Wendy's Parade" and instantly the song grooves in a new direction only to be brought back to it's funky baseline afterward. That's what Musiclogy needs, in my opinion, is a killer bridge reminiscent of the bridge in "Kiss" to take this song to the top of the chart. Without it, I'm sorry to say, it's at best a mediocre song.

it's called a groove.

haven't you ever heard him say so many times, "keep it right there!!"

he knows what he's doing and he prolly meant not to put a bridge in there. it's like Courtin Time - doesn't really move anywhere. Or like The Ride - it's a blues but the bass line stays on the I chord and just stays there while he moves around on the traditional blues structure.

see? school is in.

It's all missing melody, purpose, a hook and originality.
No hard feelings.

Right Back Here in My Arms was written without a chorus, Doves without a bassline, some songs are written with chords that are off-key... why does Prince do anything that he does???
So are you like trying to say that Prince didn't know what he was doing or doesn't know how to write a song??? I mean, what is your point? If the song is mediocre to YOU then oh well....

I tell you what... when you record Musicology for yourself,... put a BRIDGE in it and be happy.

Totally feel you. The lack of a bridge is what's keeping it at merely "good" rather than "great" prince. Still, better than "Greatest Romance" by a landslide.

You say you keep waitng and waiting for it to take you to the next level, but it never does. So you listen to it again, not realizing it just did. wink

If he would have put a bridge, it would have been predictable. "Oh there's a song about music, so when the second chorus ends, he's gonna tear it up like in The Work". The result would have been... The Work Lite. This way, it's a pure groove from beginning to end. The whole song's a bridge... how 'bout that?

How 'bout: I like 'em fat...the difference between a genius JB tribute and a merely kinda cool one. Gett Off vs. Musicology, no contest.

nod EXACTLY!!! If he would have put that part in the original song, after the second verse, it would be incredible!! That's why he's such an amazing artist to see live, but he used to be just as ingenius and phunky in the studio.
