People just think that way. If Musicology becames a "hit", the same person who said it would flop will say Prince is a sell-out. People just love to say something is lousy before it is even in their CD player.

As I know TMBGITW bores most of us ( Prince's fans) and it was a huge hit so .., this song live is a killer anyways ( Leno's performance) that's a good sign

I totally agree. i could never understand why this cd was such a great hit all over the world. I kind of like the video but it won't become one of my favourites. Maybe with this album Prince is trying to tell the story of his musical journey. Starting with the kind of music he was listening to as a kid to the kind of music he is playing today. So why don't we all relax, wait and listen till the new cd is playing in our player?

Most lapsed fans and the general public will never have heard 'The Work' and 'Pretty Man'. In my opinion, its his best lead-off single since 'Alphabet St.' 'Batdance' made him sound like a novelty act. 'Electric Chair' would have made a far-better first single and would have garnered more airplay on non-pop radio. 'Thieves In The Temple'. Too mid-tempo to gain anybody's attention. Its basically a straight pop-ballad and sounded tired even when it was released. I can't think of any track on this album which would make a good lead-off single. Some great songs - but nothing that would have made me buy the album if I wasn't a fan. 'Gett Off'. Never liked this song. 'Cream' would have been a better pick for lead-off single - its more representative of the album's overall sound. 'Sexy M.F.' Even with the edits, it was never going to be played on Nickleodeon. '7' would have been a better first single. 'Peach' was a great first single from the Hits/The B-Sides album. Oh why, oh why did he release 'Letitgo' from Come before 'Space'? 'Space' would have been an instant classic. I'm not counting 'The Most Beautiful Girl In The World' as the first single from The Gold Experience. I mean, its a completely different recording on that album. The single version of 'The Most Beautiful Girl In The World' is album-less in my opinion. In effect the first song released as a single from the album is 'Eye Hate U'. 'Eye Hate U' is a terrible song. Eye hate it. I especially dislike the extended version where he rambles on about Judge Ito... I mean why reference the O.J. Simpson case? Its weird and tacky. 'Dinner With Delores'. I hate the whole Chaos And Disorder album, so he could have released 'Had U' and it wouldn't have made any difference to me. 'Betcha By Golly, Wow!' Who was this single meant to appeal to? Its almost karaoke!!! If he'd released 'Sleep Around' it would have been huge. 'The Greatest Romance Ever Sold'. This is when me and Prince parted ways for a while. A complete run of dodgy singles for years had ruined my appreciation of him. This was the first time since 1986 that I hadn't bought a Prince album. I did buy the album much later. 'Baby Knows' should have been released as the first single. Was 'The One' released to radio before 'Come On'? I can't remember. In any case, both were fine singles. So yeah - Musicology is at least as good as 'Peach', 'The One', 'Come On' and 'Space' and twenty times better than most of the dross he has released as lead-off singles over the last 15 years.

I didnt care for it at all when I listened to it ,thought like others thst it was to much of JB parody.
But sometimes songs take awhile to work there way in ,these tend to be the types that I end up being most fond of. As for Prince not being a great chooser of singles I dont follow that one most have been great IMO,nearly all artists have album tracks or B-siders that are more popular with fans than the actual singles ,its just one of them things. I aint going to judge the whole album on the first single cause its pointless and perhaps the album wont sell well etc but if I enjoy I couldn't give a shit.
