If only Prince could do his own solos like the one he did on the RRHOF

I just saw the RRHOF and thought his solo at the end was amazing. In my opinion it was his finest monet in years. In fact, that solo beat the shit out of that horn flooded crap he did with his own songs in the beginning. If Prince could write guitar parts like that for his own records, he'd be on top of the game again. See, that would sell better than his jazz/funk crap, guaranteed. I wish he would realize this.

EWM... the master of back-handed compliments!

Seriously, Prince has wrestled with his rock potential ever since the heydays of Prince and the Revolution, and the answer as always been that, while he's darn good at it, it's not where is heart and roots are. It's one piece of the Prince puzzle that the mainstream wants him to emphasize but he's resisted the pressure. Sometimes, I think Chaos and Disorder is his fuck-off to the whole rock potential thing. It's not what he wants to do and what inspires him. It does, but it's never centerstage career-wise. But he could!

EVM - we finally agree on something!!! biggrin

You are so right - Prince's performance during WMGGW was so inspired that it was simply undeniable.

When Prince perfoms live on his own, he is always competent, and often brillant, but that is beneath the level he was at the other night.

At the RRHOF, Prince had the benefit of channeling his gifts through a truly great piece of songwriting, and that raised his game. He was not just jamming or riding a groove, he was playing meody lines; singing with his guitar, if you will.

Now Prince needs to do that with his own stuff: give us songs that match his skills - Can you imagine it?

Peace

i think that i would agree with you here. There are times you are waiting
for Prince to unleash the dragon and it doesn't come. Reminds me of
the Gett Off MTV Awards performance when he does the little guitar
solo at the end and he is holding that note holding that note... and you
are all ready for him to just lay all in to that damnned guitar.. and instead
he goes into a funky little part with a chant confuse oh well...
still good an all, but I too always look foward to Prince showing off to a
big TV audience what a bad-ass mutha-fucker he is on guitar giggle
i think you are right about that piece of the Prince-puzzle thing and how
ppl want so much from him. He delivers pleanty tho nod

The horns are staying, thank goodness. Prince's solo was spectacular, but if you want all guitar all the time, go see Slipturd or whatever those clowns you love are called. I'll take the variety that is Prince.

Shygirl I'm afraid Rock goes a little further than Slipnot. Most people love their rock and this has probablys why it has been so popular since the 50s.
To me I like some of Princes Jazz influenced music,I love his funk, and his pop RnB but he only ever touches onto rock and when he does he rarely goes full on and thats what I think we are craving.

hmmm ..... nod ..... thumbs up!

I also agree with EWM. I don't think the opening performance was shitty at all,
pop/rock would definitely [b]sell]/b] more than funk.

Well enjoy your horn-y corny paradise. Some of us actually like GOOD music.

I'm sorry, but I don't agree with this post.
How can you say he's not inspired to play great solos on his OWN songs !
I've since Prince blow the roof off buildings with solos from " The Ride" , "She's Always In My Hair" and " Purple Rain" that change in playing style from night to night.
His solo on WMGGW was stunning I agree but he's played stuff just as good on his own songs plenty of times.

Believe me, he hasn't recorded a stunning solo in years. And if he has, it's buried in the vault.

Don't you think that Prince is doing Jazz/Funk because those are his roots?? In addition, RnB and Rap that is the pop music of today. People aren't running out and buying rock right now and a lot of people don't see Prince as a Rock artist. I see him as being diverse and he should keep being diverse. I don't know anyone that is going to pay $65.00 to hear Prince rock out the whole concert.

You have a opinion but you don't really have a clue.
