How about that Sign O The Times Performance!

I have seen several While My Guitar Gently Weeps threads...but where is the love for that incredible version of Sign O The Times?? It Rocked!!! (except for the part where he says we'll name him John if he play drums) But that bass in that song is awesome and the horns really fit in. I thought that this line up would be cheezy and Vegas style, but that rocked!

The Sign O The Times Performance was flawless...Prince and the band ripped it up!!! The Bass, Horns, Drums and Keys were perfect and Princes vocals, were on point as well. And the guitar solo was excellent as well. The way he kicked into the guitar after Blackwell's solo was awe inspiring! Did u see the crowd grooving to that track? Prince had the audience in the palm of his hand from the time he stepped on the stage...exquisite!

I said this on another thread, but without a doubt, the new arrangement of Sign O' The Times is the fonkiest ever! Period! The 2004 arrangement is now the definitive version... at least "live".

You could tell from the reaction of the crowd that they recognized the song, but didn't quite know how to take it. And when you think about it, the groove is still quite original.

I'm just amazed that Prince wrote a song so long ago about crack and AIDS when no one at the time had any idea how devistating an impact those things would have on our society. It's like Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On" which seems more appropriate for today than it did when it was first released.

Yeah it kinda reminded me of Morris' line from Cloreen Bacon Skin... "Oh sh!t, my hat done fell off!" lol

Playing like he was, I don't know how Blackwell thought his hat was going to stay on in the first place. He needed a chin strap the way he was wailing!

Back at the time the impact of crack and HIV was recognized by many people, still Prince was the first pop-artist to release a single with this message at the time...

I remember 1 review just stating: 5 lines of text into the song and the eighties just passed you... the best summary of a decade ever (it was a Dutch paper, don't bother asking for links to this quote).

Did anyone catch in 'Kiss' the slight change of lyrics? You don't have to watch Sex and the City to be cool...

(more SOTT edit)
Btw, this SOTT performance sounded great. But not like the first time biggrin

omg SOTT kicked ass on the RRHOF!!! woot!
He played it that night at the aftershow and it totally
blew me away! I am sooo excited to have a perfect
quality performance of it from the RRHOF dancing jig
At the end of SOTT at the aftershow he said:
"....let's fall in love, get married, have a baby.....
we'll call him..... Prince..... if he's sexy!" biggrin

I really liked the much funked up version of SOTT. Even better than the original. I didn't care for Kiss or LGC in the set, though. To much brass in the mix.

The "Sign O' The Times" performance was my favorite, I think! It was awesome, and I loved his gun mic!

Sorry, but yet again the horns ruin a classic song. I wasn't impressed until the final solo.

I wonder why prince is using the same guitar for all his performances does any one know i hope he uses all of them in his upcoming tour as for the hof performance sott was jamming but he would be okay just with candy playing sax and him playing more guitar and rhonda playing more bass what do u all think.

Yeah. When I heard those familiar synthetic intro "beeps" I was once again flabbergasted. No hoestly I was, it's a great sound.

For another opinion: The horns are just right: Not only funky as all hell, but ominous as well...a perfect underscore for the lyrics.
Prince has continually changed the arrangements of many classics over the years when playing live, as many fans know.
This is one of the talents and abilities that place him so high above so many of "peers".
How lame to have a Prince who would only strive to re-create the album versions of his songs when playing live.
Oftentimes the live versions are the ones I prefer in the end....

I'm going to the movie broadcast Monday, the Bakersfield show on tuesday and the San Jose show that is forthcoming. On top of that I went to see him this past Feb 14, when he was in San Fran. I don't care if his show is nothing but show tunes from "Okalahoma", I'm going to have the time of my life. His performance during the RRHOF was one of the standout points. Love it or leave it alone.
