I STILL cannot see that this is really going to work just like we think at the moment. I mean, how much effort is it to get so many CDs to each venue?
And also, how many CDs will there be on ebay?

Hmm, maybe I'm jsut pissed that I'll have to download it in a nerv-wretching [sp?] 27 hours session from the club. hrmph

I still think he has them printed already. It's the only way he can say that everyone will get one. I too am very surprised that NOTHING has gotten out in either details nor music. I have yet to even hear the full version of Musicology...and where is that video?

Unfortuneately, I see many of these going to directly to ebay...especially if it's not in the stores. Which is a shame that some will profit on something that was given to them for free. I really feel for our friends overseas who will have no choice but to download (well at least it guarantees him some downloads). I am lucky I got a ticket for the theatre show as I don't think I could wait until he came in town for a tour (SF has yet to be announced...it's my mantra these days lol ) or release it in the stores.

When all is done, i'll probably have 2 copies and will give away my free copy to someone that I know would enjoy it. By that time it will probably have been released in the stores.

Naaah...I'm guessing that the wrecka stow version is going to have extra stuff on it that will devalue the version we get at the concerts to the extent that the free CDs won't have a lot of worth on eBay - I know we're getting the entire Musicology album, but that doesn't mean they can't throw an extra CD or bonus DVD on the wrecka stow version. Ya know?

No offense spaceboy but you are off on this one. These CDs are not free. We paid $xx dollars for tickets and the CDs are included. So indeed we did pay for them. No one is walking down the street handing them out! Money is changing hands!

Which brings me to my second point- even if they were being handed out for free one of the conditions of a true "gift" is that the reciever may use it as they see fit. This includes selling it and yes even profitting from it. Why not?

If I give you a gift then it is yours. You may keep it, sell it, give it away in return, whatever you like. If there are any implied conditions beyond that then it wasn't really a gift. It was a bribe!!

biggrin biggrin biggrin

Myself? I'll keep a couple, probably give a couple a way, and sell a couple. I'm getting 6!!

No offense taken. You make a valid point. Yes if you are given something, you are free and should be free to do with what you want with your possessions…be it a concert ticket, memorabilia or a CD. Clearly, if someone wants to buy what you sell (within reason) then there should be no reason a transaction shouldn’t take place. And if Prince had his ducks in a row, it’d be available for those overseas the day the concert starts. I don’t think I was too far off, I didn’t say that these shouldn’t end up on ebay…I just think it’s unfortunate that they will. Just my opinion as I tend to think it sort of goes against what I feel he is trying to accomplish with this album.

I never really considered any of these CD’s to be included in the price of any of the tickets for the shows. I think that the shows would cost the same with or with out Musicology. I think the assumption is that this may be a way of P “selling” the album without actually selling it. Along with this assumption, I have been under the notion that he wants everyone to have it…as many people that perhaps have Purple Rain. I doubt folks would have bought Musicology, which is why he is “giving” it away. I think that the terms “giving” and “free” have been a bit vague and skewed as to what these things mean…esp when talking about this album.

Each to his own ethics, as I also think scalping is wrong. People do it…and people buy it…so there is an obvious need/want. In the end it doesn’t matter too much…everyone get paid one way or another.

Though when one is getting six...I can see how you'd be wondering what to do with them.

And what is all of this "it's all going to end up in the used bins?" hmmm Pretty bold statements for something that noone has heard nor knows the track listing yet. I mean you may be right, but give the boy a little benefit of the doubt! Dang! hmph!

Do u have 2 b a npgmc member 2 get the free cd? R they being distibuted at the Brookdale show on Monday? I didn't think they were ready 2 go yet? Thanks for any and all info!

The deal was that everyone who attends the concert or the theater presentation gets a copy of the CD Musicology. So the Brooklyn Center theater should be prepped to give out the discs, member or not.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

First off, everyone who walks into a Prince concert with a ticket gets a CD. That's what the ads say, that's what the NPGMC site says, that's what they've been saying on the talk shows Prince has been on, and that's what all the PPs say when they get asked. If yer goin' to the concert, yer gettin' a CD. If you don't get a CD, call the riot squad, cuz yer supposed to get one. Mmmkay?

Secondly, I think Prince and NPGMC are well aware that folks will be trying to fork these off on eBay. Have you seen how much $$$ the ONA discs are going for on there??? I wouldn't be surprised if Prince or NPGMC gave club members those extra copies of ONA w/ ONA live with full knowledge that there wouldn't be any more copies printed, so the extra copies would circulate as "exclusive rare collectors items". If they did this on purpose, it's a pretty smart move. It shows folks (read: LABELS) how in demand even his most obscure music is.

Even if the whole ONA thing was unintentional, I can guarantee you that they noticed the action on eBay, and that they're going to make sure what you have in your sweaty little paws at the concerts won't be worth more than a coupla coins in the fountain compared to what will be offered at wrecka stows when Musicology hits the streets.

So whatever happens, it looks like we're all gonna be up to our gills in one form of Musicology CD or another...eventually I'll have to throw 'em in my pile with all the AOL 9.0 discs that come in the mail!!!

I really think it will be the single but extended with remixes etc - I hope I am wrong but we will soon see. I live in the UK so will not get to the shows until they hit Europe. I would be keen to buy a spare copy of the giveaway disc be it single / album and to pay shipping. Anyone able to hook me up then please orgnote me. Hope all have a great time come Monday and that the shows kick off with a bang. It is encouraging that more shows are being added and that the single is apparently getting airtime. Also great news thta a major is dealing with the release - now he is majoring aswell re the release it is ka-ching ka-ching for him!
