Usher/Outkast Production Manager claimed Prince used to smoke crack. While loading in a set for Usher this past Sunday at Webster Hall in NYC for an AOL Broadcast, I was working with Geoff Perren, Usher's(also Andre 3000's) production manager. I brought up how I was a big Prince fan, and that I thought it was cool that Andre was part of the RRHOF induction ceremony. He then told me that he had worked with Prince in the past and pointed out how difficult he was to work with at that time. I told him that I thought that Prince had found a certain peace in recent years, and was mellowing out somewhat. He said, "Yeah, well, back then he was smokin' alot o' crack, so's I guess if he cleaned up his act he might be better lately." (He has a thick British accent). I didn't pursue it any more because, quite honestly, I was stunned! I think that Geoff worked with Prince before the name change. I've been a Prince fan for more than 20 years. I have never heard anyone claim that he was ever a heavy drug user. Even the lyrics in his songs throughout his career put down people that do.
I'm around the people behind the stars through the work that I do. And I know that they usually shoot straight from the hip. I'm hoping that Geoff's comment was more of some road weary bitterness that an actual true statement. But I can't seem to get his comments out of my mind. He also used Andre 3000 as a counterpoint to Prince. Claiming that Andre lives a clean life: no drugs, no booze, no meat. Isn't it odd that that is how most Prince fans would describe how Prince lives?

Hard to hide crack and heroin easy to hide alcohol, coke and weed. goku said: While loading in a set for Usher this past Sunday at Webster Hall in NYC for an AOL Broadcast, I was working with Geoff Perren, Usher's(also Andre 3000's) production manager. I've heard rumors that Cat was a crack user during the Lovesexy era and that one time she accidentally somehow dropped a lit crack rock into Prince's hair which burned his scalp, which in turn pissed him off in a major way and soon after that alleged incident is when Cat suddenly disappeared into thin air.
There are so many rumors and whispered stories swirling about Prince, who knows what's actually true or what has a grain of truth to it or what is a flat out lie (bowl of bees, anyone?) but I will say this: Prince, for all his anti-drugs, anti-booze stance, sure seems to have had a large number of alleged druggies surrounding him.

Not really. It's probably indicative of that position because a good number of Prince diehards believe everything he presents about his life as the gospel truth. Many of us are just plain gullible, feeling as if we have a real relationship with him, just because we like his music. We don't, but folks still refuse to accept the POSSIBILITY that he projects only the best. "Prince couldn't possibly have hit a woman. He wrote, Friend, Mother, Lover, Sister, Wife. He couldn't have cheated on Mayte or Nona or Mani or Susannah. He wrote Adore and Forever in My Life..." If it's been your experience that such associates of yours are in the know, then you might have reason to believe him. (by the way, does this production manager know you're putting his name and stuff out here like this? There's such thing as libel, you know...)

I've heard and seen a good many things about the people that we work with, and been quite content just passing along these tidbits to my friends. However, this time, I just couldn't let this rest. As far as liablility, he shouldn't have offered this up. The behind the scenes world that I get access to is very insular, and people say alot of nasty things about the artists. I've even been privy to the oddest circumstances surrounding some artists, but don't go around saying shit like this and think that because of who you are 'in the business' that you're protected from people wanting to call you out on the nasty shit that some of these back-biting bitches let fly.

By now, roadies, striptease dancers and former associates have told me that Prince was on everything from coke to painkillers and a little horse tranquilizer in the morning with vodka and orange juice.
I'm writing this on pure cafeine.

It's an interesting subject, and I would place no judgement on Prince (or anyone else) either way - but a little drug use might go someway to explaining his almost fanatical attitude to orthodox religion. In as much that there may be a deep feeling of guilt and desire for redemption. [This message was edited Tue Mar 23 3:52:35 2004 by Romance1600] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I'll bet that the only crack Prince was smoking was the PINK one.
I am sure that Prince has done his share of drugs in the past. I find it very hard to believe that he was ever an addict of any type of controlled substance. Crack is not really a recreational drug, but hey, it could be true. Peace Cause tomorrow is taking too long
and yesterday's too far away and the reality that you believe in begins to bind.
