Girl 6

The soundtrack of Girl 6 was released March 19, 1996 - 8 years (and a day) ago.

What do you think of this collection? Do you like the previously-unreleased tracks, She Spoke 2 Me, Don't Talk 2 Strangers and Girl 6? Have you seen the movie?

Saw the movie just to hear the soundtrack. The screenplay was terrible, I figured this going in as I'm not a big Spike fan. The song Girl 6 is kind of a throw-away. The other unreleased songs are cool. Good to get "remastered" previously released songs out of the deal, too.

I like the movie too.

And the soundtrack, which I just bought in the last year, is TIGHT. I mean sure I had all the songs, but the flow is fantastic....I dunno, it just seems to really highlight some amazing, sensual Prince jams.

She Spoke 2 Me: pretty good, but I enjoy the longer version better
Don't Talk 2 Strangers: I love this song!
Girl 6: eh...
The movie itself: never bothered to see it.

I heard time ago that "Don't talk 2 strangers" was originally intended for another movie, a kind of musical starring Nick Nolte and Tracy Ullman, but in the end the film was a normal movie, not a musical

I saw the film some years ago (Sorry I don't remember the title) and you could hear some of "Don't talk 2 strangers" lyrics when police arrested Tracy Ullman and she speaks to her little daughter.

Someone remember the title of that film, or what other songs were made for it?

I LOVE "Don't talk to strangers" I had this on the "Platinum" bootleg well before the movie soundtrack was released.

I just recently recieved the 45 for "Girl 6" in the mail. It completed my quest to collect every one of Prince's officially released 45's in the US!!
Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.

I love the soundtrack album and I love the movie. I'm not sure if any of the tracks were "remastered" as such, they just sound louder.

I think the best bit of the movie is when Girl 6 is waiting on the pier for Bob to turn up. It plays "How Come U Don't Vall Me Anymore" in its entirety and its like a little music video. Its so sad when it shows her alone on the ferris wheel in the freezing cold.

Even Madonna's cameo is quite good - she's actually funny.

It's the only movie that continually plays purple music without Prince actually in it.

the soundtrack even includes a remastered "Adore", which is worth the price!

That soundtrack is definitely one of my favorites! I bought 2. I love the sequence and the choice of songs. And if you want to hear Adore bang just as clearly as it ever will, buy this soundtrack on CD.

The movie is great, had Spike Lee done this immediately after "She's Gotta Have It"; I think it would have been much better received. When Girl 6 was released Spike had already done the big budget "Malcolm X," and several other fairly well received projects. I think people viewed Girl 6 as a step down and in the wrong direction. But in my opinion, Spike was just taking a trip back to his early GRITTY film making techniques.

I'm pretty sure it was Julia Roberts, and not Tracy Ullman. But you are right, that is the movie. In the end, the musical idea was scrapped -- didn't matter, though, because I don't think the movie did well anyway.

The movie Girl 6 features MANY more Prince songs that are not on the soundtrack. I'm talking dozens of Prince songs total, playing throughout the whole movie.

I like the soundtrack, at least for Don't Talk 2 Strangers and She Spoke 2 Me. Girl 6 isn't great, but it's a novelty . . .

Nick Nolte and Tracey Ullman appeared together in "I'll Do Anything" in 1994. I remember seeing a bit of it. Don't remember the part when Ullman is arrested. I'll have to check it out again.

I still haven't been able to get my hands on a copy of "Girl 6;" it's always out of stock when I try Amazon, etc. Does anyone know if "Girl 6" was ever available on DVD?

My favorite song from the soundtrack is definitely "Pink Cashmere." Okay, P-geeks, when was this song originally done?

i thought the film was okay. Not great but glad i've seen it kinda film.

Music is really good - a nice little compilation. Girl 6 itself is a bit of a wet fish, but the rest of the CD is great.

I have the cd but never play it. I thought that it was interesting when Spike Lee had his store in Brooklyn that Prince music was playing over the sound system and not just Girl 6 stuff either. lol

It was released on DVD in the US for a low price.

Pink Cashmere was a song for and/or about Anna Fantastic, written when he was bangin' her. I don't quite know the time period, but pre-Mayte.
