Prince and Yoko Ono

Yoko is my hero, my inspiration and spiritual saviour. And her music rox my sox. I noticed that she turned up for Prince's inductation into the Hall of Fame. Does anyone know what she thinks of Prince/Prince thinks of her? Has either mentioned the other one in an interview?

(please, no onohaters in this thread. "it wasn't yoko. the beatles broke up the beatles." - paul mccartney)

I actually don't know, but I'd certainly be love to be a fly on the wall to hear what a conversation between Prince and Yoko would be like. I've always been impressed by Yoko and never thought she broke up The Beatles. I just always kind of figured there must have been something special about her for John to love her so, and left it at that.

I have never heard one mention the other in an interview (which doesn't necessarily mean it hasn't happened, I just haven't heard it).

And I think Yoko was there because ex-Beatle George Harrison was inducted to the hall of fame .....even though it seemed like it was all Prince, others were inducted into the RR Hall of Fame that night also.

Well that's a good question. I remember an interview by Prince a few years ago where he mentionned Yoko. and...he had nothing good to say about her. I remember him mentionning her voice and lack of talent. No kidding. He was pretty harsh on her.

I would guess that Prince would give Yoko much respect, simply for being John's widow and for being a spiritual person.

do we only get to hate yoko and her wrk if we believe she broke up the beatles? giggle
the only comments i've herd prince make re yoko is "the first time i heard yoko ono's music i thought she's gotta stop that, today!!" i think it was in the rs interview in early 85' it has astill photo from 'raspberry beret' on it.

as self absorbed as both of them are, i would be surprised if they thought about one another much at all.

I don't think Yoko broke up the Beatles, that's just silly. I detest Yoko's music for its own merits.

I read that damn interview so many times it's not funny. I remember being a kid and buying it the day it came out and reading out loud to my mom on the way home from the wrecka stow. I know I have that dang RS somewhere in my stuff.

I don't remember him saying a thing about Yoko in that interview.

Yoko Ono is a Goddess.

She has always done her own thing, regardless of her ability. I salute her. Maybe as a "musical" artist, she's not technically proficient, but she puts herself out there, every time.

The 1985 Rolling stone interview is here:
http://princetext.tripod....one85.html

I cant see him mentioning Yoko Ono in it but I've only had a quick scan through ,
I do recall reading him saying something like "the first time i heard yoko ono's music i thought she's gotta stop that, today!!" as well though somewhere or other confused

Prince didn't say it in the great 85 interview, I think it may have been the 90 or 91 rs interview. I have it somewhere He made the point that people shouldn't be critical of anyone's music by saying the above and then saying "wait a minute, who am I to say what she should do?"

Naah, that's not what I meant... I'm all for valid criticism and discussion of her work but it's the people who dismiss her with "broke up the beatles. bitch. not interested." that i refer to as Onohaters.

I read that from Rollingstone in 1990. He said that when he first heard her sing he was like Hey! You need to quit that today! But then he thought about it and said why should she quit. He thought he shouldn't be so judgemental about someone else talents. Me personally, if she sounded like crap, he was right the first time. You need to quit. Other than that, I have never heard Prince be critical of Yoko or anyone else. He's never been one to trust the press.

John and Paul always wanted their women to sing and be with them always, and thats the love going through those guys, never wantin to leave them out.. So I applaud such dedication on their part, but that doesnt mean they can sing...

smile

Can someone please imagine Double Fantasy as a full John Lennon album? Yep.. too good to be true, probably be equivalent to the best beatle album ever made.

That's the thing, it's not really singing at all, it's a whole new form of vocal expression she's tapped into. It's amazing how much of her life's pain she can express with a single word or phrase ("Why?", "Don't worry", "I'm dying"...). And that wailing's not an easy thing to do y'know, she took years of vocal training to be able to do that.

Mmm, it's a shame sad .... Especially considering the big Beatles influence in ATWIAD. Can't you imagine Paisley Park being a track on Sgt Pepper's?

Im sorry, and I dont want to be controversial but Yoko Ono is probably one of the people I dislike most in the world - she is simply famous for sponging off John Lennon...and continues to do so many many years after his death. If he was still alive today she would be labelled a Golddigger - Remember what she did with his body totally against his family wishes

I don't know about the body thing but I don't think it's fair to label her a gold-digger... Unfortunately, John died, and she happens to be his next-of-kin. She's got a right to all that money.

Yoko Ono was born into power and wealth, so that wipes away all of your unfounded gold digging comments. She was also a well respected and successful artist when she met John Lennon. So don't talk about people whom you know nothing about!
