I'm going to have to buy this again and listen to it, to give an honest answer. When it first came out I thought it was poor.

I love it! Raw, dark, dynamic, funky, stripped-down, poppy...
I also like the concept of the album... putting th name "prince" to rest... the beginning of a "new spiritual revolution"...

What a fascinating period it was! cool

I haven't listened to it for awhile but I dug it when it came out. To me its a good work disc, good for listening to while cleaning and such. It kind of all flows together. Very cohesive. I recommend it although people don't seem to like it much around here!

I said I didn't think all that much of it on first listen, not that I didn't like it. If you're going to slander me in public at least get the facts straight wink

PS - I still don't think much of it lol

Come is my favourite 90s Prince album, together with The Gold Experience.

I especially like the very passionate tracks, like Papa, Dark and Pheromone!

Love the album, though I wish he'd put the "alternate" version of Come on there instead. Thought the other version would have fitted in better with the feel of the rest of the album.

I was about to write a comment, but then I realized that I like every song on here except for Solo and Orgasm. I would've added Love Sign and used the techno version of Come. Otherwise, I like it a lot!

One thing that always stood out to me was the name of this remix, because Lenny Kravitz's 1993-1994 tour was called the Universal Love Tour.

Yes, this is a great remix - love it!

It's a pretty strong album until the "Letitgo"/"Orgasm" finale: it sort of peters out after it seems like it's heading somewhere--a lot like "Lovesexy"-"I Wish U Heaven"/"Positivity". Both those albums kick ass and needed a big musical flourish @ the end--the "!", so to speak. ("Letitgo" & "I Wish U Heaven" are great songs on their own, though) A big "!" to end those albums would have made them classics!

(I think "Come" is the mirror-universe "Lovesexy", if you get it.)"I love the musicianship of "Come", but the skimpy packaging and prerequisite # of tracks tells me not to consider it a "Major Prince Release".Sonically, I love it much more than the sunnier "Gold Experience".

HI, Mr. Bear! biggrin

yup. i love this album. heck, when i bought the early single letitigo, it was the flipside 'solo' that got me even more excited for the album. this album seems has been creepin, and may have begun to renig on their early assessments.
it has a vibe all its own (and by vibe i don't mean 'yeah, it's bad').
i mean it's dark, stripped down, and fonky.

i only really wish that 'come' version from the glam slam ulysses production was released somehow.
that version rules. but i sure am glad that we got that 11 minute slammin' album version.
also woulda been nice to have the original endorphinmachine too, as originally slated.

I'm a HUGE fan of of that album. It's so raw and sensual. It's very intimate and even delicate in some places.

Yeah, Come was pretty good but 1994 was just a lot of bad memories for me. You see I was working at a CD warehouse at the time. The local Warner rep used to come by a lot. He was a nice guy. He used to give me lots of Prince promo material. I even vaguely remember the 'Come' print promo from WB. "COME, the new album by Prince!, but his name isn't Prince anymore, but it is for this album. Confused? so are we! but fuck it! here's his album" or something to that effect.

One day the rep came in shaking his head. He looked at me said, did you see that ***hole on the Awards show last night, with his lollipop acting like prick, standing on stage not singing 'We are the world'? I lamely tried to defend him by saying well you know he did take a lot of flack from not participating in the original recording. Then I thought, you know what, he's right. That's wasn't a very cool thing to do".

Also that year we got 1-800-New-Funk, that NPG get wild stuff, and the 'criminally past due' Black Album release. 1994, good lord! 2004 on the other hand, has RAWKED! Keep up the good work Prince!

By the way, I just joined the ORG. Check my avatar. That's the reason! That performance wit Beyonce got me excited about being a Prince fan again. During the 90's I still picked up the CDs and attended some of the shows, but the excitement level certainly had diminished.
