"A message from Dave Chappelle" Prince's reaction

From the okayplayer boards. Determine for yourself the veracity of the post, but if I remember right, Dave has mentioned okayplayer on his show before and he's had ?uestlove guest also....

"A message from Dave Chappelle"

Hello there,

Dave and Neal here. It's four in the morning and we just wrote a short
little sketch. We were out late last night, too.

Where, you ask? At a little concert that Prince was doing at a small club
here in New York. It was incredible. And to top it all off, about four
songs into the show, he yelled into the mic, "Dave Chappelle, where you
be?" Ridiculous.

Later in the show, he seemed to do a Lil' Jon, "Yeah!" We hadn't heard
anything as to whether he had seen the Charlie Murphy basketball sketch.
So afterward, we're at a reception for him, and he tells us he loved it,
that it was hilarious, and a true story. Later, he was ordering food and,
no joke, he turned to us and said, "You guys want anything? Dave,
Pancakes?" Maybe the highlight of the season.

Almost forgot, he said he heard about the sketch from Morris Day. I don't
even want to expound on that. If you're a fan of his, just know he was mad
cool, and treated us with more respect than we deserve.

Anyhow, tonight's show has some hilarious stuff in it, if we do say so
ourselves. It's the first of the stuff we wrote in St. Thomas. The
centerpiece is about black celebrities on trial. It's funny. We hope you
like it.

Pancakes?

Dave and Neal

Haters wanna hate, Lovers wanna love, I don't really want none of the above...I want to piss on you---Dave Chappelle

HA!
good deal.

I gotta tune in to that show more.
It's hillarious.

Wasn't Dave on the VH1/Prince take-over back when.
He was on right before Prince came out and did The Ryde.

I think Prince dug it because it was funny without being insulting. It's good that he can laugh at himself. If he was the same person he was back then, he might not have thought it was funny.

I don't know about that. Remember in his 85 Rolling Stone interview, he went on and on about what a huge kick he got out of the SNL skit Billy Crystal did about him. I think he's always had a good sense of humour about himself, as long as he's not being insulted.

yup!...He was. He told a joke that went something about him seeing a psychiatrist. She was going to take him through his past lives with the powers of the mind or summin like that and find out why he was always so angry. Psychiatrist hypnotized him and found the source of his anger. He's been black 4 lives in a row. He need's a fu__in beak!. I've always liked that joke. That on and one about walking down the streen in Salt Lake City with sasquatch(sp?). A perplexed citizen saw the two and yelled out,"look, a nigger!"

Back in 1995 when Prince was doing two or three shows a week a Paisley Park (no joke!) and I started going out there all the time there was one night where it was a little different, not just a show but they were filming and Dave Chappelle was there doing a comedy skit! First time I had ever heard of him. Nona Gaye was also filmed that night and then Prince and the NPG played three or four songs. FUn night. I think Dave C is sampled on The Exodus album. Isn't that him saying "white man trying to convince brother to get job.."?

That's cool, you gotta have a sense of humor. If you get mad, people only laugh 'at you' harder. Might as well laugh with us. THe funny thing is that Prince said it was a true story. In fact I remember reading that somewhere, he invited some friends over, and kicked their ass in basketball. I'd pay to see that.

On the R. Kelly 'Piss on You Skit' lol (I can't even type it without laughing) When Dave brought out the bucket of liquid Poo, what was written on the side of the bucket? He had a unique name for it, made it even funnier.
