Alicia Keys loves Prince, I felt that sister. Her speech came from the heart and I loved that. What a honor to be chosen by the Purple one himself.

You know what though. It's not good enough to, as you say, 'come from the heart.' THEY WERE GIVEN A GREAT RESPOSIBILITY. . . A PRIVILAGE. AND THEY OWED IT TO PRINCE TO COME THROUGH WITH A DECENT SPEECH !!!!!

if one doesn't do anything or say somethin from their heart, then why even do it at all? it's either that or doin a half-assed job, or not doin a gotdamned thing (which would get folks here pissed off, if that were so).

neither outkast nor alicia owed prince a damned thing, save for their thanks and gratitude.

most likely you're much older than me--i'm probably one of the "younger generation" that you referred to and showed disdain for in your initial post. i'm 23 years old, been a prince geeklette for 9 years--and what's this b.s. about none of us younger people bein able to use correct english? you must be payin attention to the wrong crowd of youngsters--there are plenty of us out there, like myself, who are intelligent and have excellent command of the english language.

it's statements like yours that make me feel absolutely ashamed--no, more like disgusted--to be a prince fan.

check yourself.

I don't why you would feel disgusted by this person's opinion. A lot of older people are turned off by some of the ignorant behavior of the under the 30 group. There was a time when black people did'nt show out in public but those days are over.

Andre and Big Boi made fools out of themselves and I hope they can work on their speaking skills.

Andre owes Prince a lot (LOL)

I thought Alicia sounded like an artist who had a profound appreciation for all that he has given music, and also like a woman who is attracted to him. She didn't come across as high as much as lustful.

I can totally relate. razz

Her enthusiasm over Prince was cool. Her speech kinda sounded like a 14 year old's high school english paper on Prince tho. It's good that she took the time to actually prepare somethin tho.

Yeah, Alicia was trying a bit too hard to sound impressive, I think. What was with the laughing/chuckling in between comments?
That's why I thought it would have been better to balance a new act like her with an older one who could put Prince's career in perspective from the standpoint of someone who's actually been there as a professional peer from the beginning, like Stevie Wonder, Patti LaBelle and a host of others.
But I ain't mad at Alicia, nor OutKast. I'm just sayin' ...

Peace

TurnItUp

I know this an old tread, but I wanted to comment anyway. I was watching the RRHOF fame again on tape and I really am glad Outkast and Alicia inducted our man. Alicia, you took the words right outta my mouth. I wish it was me up there.

I am touched by how you said it, with feeling and meaning, not just being up there just to be up there and I love it even more now that he plays it at the beginning of his shows. If I was Prince and I've paid my dues like he did and I've been around for 25 years and got recognition like that I would play that speech at the beginning of my shows too. Much respect to Outkast and much respect to you Alicia.

Man I loved it at the top of Prince's show when Alicia says "Ladies and Gentlemen, I want you to get on your feet and pay homage to the one and only Prince! and that's his cue to come out and sing Musicology. God he knows how to do it. RRHOF on Mar. 15, aired on VH1 the 21st, and his tour started on 29th. Perfect. Just Perfect. biggrin
