I have no disdain for anyone younger than myself. My comments were not about that . When I said the 'younger generation' I meant the younger generation of mainstream musicians, (eneterainers actually) who all seem to think it's cool to come across as illiterate. As for Keys and Outkast , I guess you guys have lower expectaions than I did when it came to how Prince was inducted. I thought he deserved better. I think when you are chosen to speak in front of an auidence (especially an audience full of greatness) you should give the language the respect it deserves AND COME FROM THE HEART. one out of two does not cut it for me. Plus the speech should have been about Prince not about them. It was a day to honor Prince and make people aware of his carreer. I don't need to hear about how many kings there were. What was the fucking point of the Alicia. Guess what there were a lot of Prince's too. Prince Charles, Prince Machiovelli, Prince Paul . . . . That was just dopey to say.

I wonder how much shit U're talkin' about Keith Richards, or Kid Rock, Or Tom Petty even. They all took their liberties with the english language. MUCH more. Most of the presenters for that matter. I noticed this as well, most of the presenters were inductee's as well. I "wonder" what this says about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. .....OH YEAH! IT'S THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME

You are a moron. They all gave a good speech. What they said came from the heart. They were commenting on how much of an impact Prince had on their lives, musically and personally. Andre knows how to play insturments, not sure about Big Boi. So at least 66% of them can play insturments. I also don't believe Robert Townsend palys any insturments, so should the Dells be pissed off. Finally, Alicia did not look high. She looked like she was trying to keep herself together, not allow herself to be overcome with emotion. Also, Prince requested that Alicia Keys give his inductance speech. I think he should have a little more say over that matter than you.

I would love to respond but, you calling me 'a moron' says it all about where you're coming from.

The only reason I called you a moron, is because you had a few errors in your post. Such as the fact that Andre DOES play insturments and the fact that Prince requested Alicia to induct him. If you want to make an intelligent post and not a moronic one, you should check your facts before you post. That is where I am coming from.

I read that Prince chose Alicia to induct him. I don't know why there are so many people on this site that dislike her. She can sing, write and play! I have respect for her because of this and the fact that she hasn't sold out and became another Britney, Christina or Kelis! AK is cool in my books!

Alicia Keys gave one of the best speeches I have ever heard.

Those other two jokers are people with whom I am not familiar, but I would venture to guess that they are rappers and not musicians.

Whether or not she can sing is a matter of opinion. I personally don't care either way about her as a person but she is so over-rated to me and with that dress she was wearing last night, she's trying to go the Christina route.

I liked her speech too and no it wasn't a bit much. At first I didn't think OutKast would do good and I like them, but I even liked their speech. I think Prince made a good choice in choosing her as far as young artist go. I liked what she said along with the footage of him over the years. If they had got Ashanti, Britney Spears or somebody like that that's nowhere on the level Prince is then I would've been pissed. I liked the whole thing. Thanks Alicia and OutKast for inducting our man and thanks Prince for hugging them and showing them love and giving them good advice.

Your're not the only one who didn't dig her speech. I thought it was WACK! The only reason why we tolerated it was because she is gorgeous! I can't remember a word she said but i can remember what kid rock said and what the crazy dude from the rolling stones said... oh yeah keith richards.

cool I also liked Alicia speech. It was nice. She made what OutKast said forgettable. They looked lost for words afterward. I also read (on a VH1 site) that Prince picked her to induct him. The inductees have the right to pick the artist inducting them if they want too. "WHY NOT? I saw nothing wrong with his choice at all. I do not know if he also picked Outkast. She should have it done alone. They(OutrKast) looked out of place up there. "HIGH???" confused She looked more excited & overjoyed than high me. I like Alicia. She is talented(unlike other sooo called hot artist out now) She has looks, brains, & does not have to show her ass to sell records. I respect that. I absolutely agree with the above, except I thought Alicia Keys speech was ok. Andre's speech wasn't presented well and Big Boi's was absolutely terrible. In fact, I was embarrassed watching it (it did come across extremely illiterate). Like chrisslope9 said, the speeches should have been more about Prince, not so much about them. I wasn't interested in what they had to say about themselves. Also, it was very tacky that Big Boi brought up Erotic City and the "F" word. I'm sure Prince didn't appreciate that being that he wants to portray a cleaner image and all.
Andre and Big Boi also should have had their speeches written out rather than coming from the top of their heads. I'm sure they would have done a somewhat better job (maybe not, lol)instead of just winging it. I still wonder why those two were chosen to induct Prince. Yes, he indeed deserved better. Somebody more mature and who actually was really familiar with Prince and his tremendous accomplishments. Someone who could have talked about more specific instances of his geniuses on a personal level.

I dont like akeys nor did I like her speech or appearance on the show and I am surprised to hear Prince wanted her and outkast to induct him like the before mentioned santana or even d'angelo would have done a much better job akeys please lose that ghetto thug style and learn how to dress and speak, outkast could have prepared a little more for their time on the podium.

Have you ever heard D'Angelo speak?!? Now there's someone you should never allow to speak in public.

I believe Prince chose Alicia Keys and Outkast because he saw it as a reflection of the theme of his acceptance speech. To him, they probably closely represent younger artists who would embrace or carry on his whole musicology concept.

That said, I was disappointed with their induction speeches as well. Miss Keys laid it on too thick with the overly done sensual voice, bedroom eyes, and near-moaning. I thought she would orgasm at any moment. It was borderline embarrassing. Andre and Big Boi were a disappointment as well. This wasn't the MTV Awards, this was the Rock 'N Roll Hall Of Fame. Prepare a few words for the man you claim to admire so much. Speaking from the heart can be done articulately and still sound sincere and passionate. All three had me pressing the mute button several times.

A better choice to induct Prince would have been one of the people he seems to have embraced as his own mentors -- Patti LaBelle, George Clinton, Larry Graham or Chaka Khan. How about James Brown or Little Richard? Or maybe even a mixed contingent from The Time and The Revolution. Disappointed, but I respect the motive behind his choice.
