Her enthusiasm over Prince was cool. Her speech kinda sounded like a 14 year old's high school english paper on Prince tho. It's good that she took the time to actually prepare somethin tho.

I thought that when I read parts of her speech too before I saw it.

But it was really delivered very nicely, sincerely etc.

What Alicia Keys said was beautiful, this is probably going to be the best presentation tonight, I really dug what she was sayin. The emotion behind it was so real that you could feel it. She's a truly awesome artist, and is gorgeous as well as talented! Rock on Alicia Keys! biggrin

I think it was an absolute sin and an insult to Prince that Outkast and Keys were chosen to induct him.
In contrast to Prince, who his quite articulate and has an excellent command of the English language, these three were incredibly un-well spoken. Did anybody count how many 'ya knows' Andre let out or how many 'uh huh's Keys uttered. And what the hell were they talking about anyway ??? Do we really need to hear that Andre tried to straighten his hair or that Big Boy was impressed that Prince said 'Fuck' in Erotic City? How very Bevis and Butthead of him to point that out. Keys came closer to making sense but even she lost me at times . Overall , the lack of education was apparent in all three.
Prince, who is very well spoken and super intelligent deserved better than this. Santana, Stevie Wonder, Lenny Kravitz, or even D'angelo would have done a much better job. It also points out what a sad state this world is in that the younger generation can't speak english anywhere near corectly and that 66% of the people who inducted Prince can't play a note. PS: If Keys was high ( and her eyes said she was) that's just bullshit plain and simple. Especially since Prince has always been so anti-drug.

On one hand, I'm irritated that Andre & Big Boi didn't have anything better to say than their little crappy stories. whofarted On the other hand, I think it's cool that such young guys got a chance to be a part of such a great moment. Who knows - maybe they'll develop some deeper respect for the whole game & not just chalk everything up to off the cuff bullshit.

Given the circumstances I'm REALLY glad Alicia presented with them. Her speech sounded corny as fuck when someone quoted it here but it was great. It was heartfelt, honorable & all true. Must make her feel great to have been asked by P to do so...
heart prince I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it prince heart

You are a moron. They all gave a good speech. What they said came from the heart. They were commenting on how much of an impact Prince had on their lives, musically and personally. Andre knows how to play insturments, not sure about Big Boi. So at least 66% of them can play insturments. I also don't believe Robert Townsend palys any insturments, so should the Dells be pissed off. Finally, Alicia did not look high. She looked like she was trying to keep herself together, not allow herself to be overcome with emotion. Also, Prince requested that Alicia Keys give his inductance speech. I think he should have a little more say over that matter than you.

You know what though. It's not good enough to, as you say, 'come from the heart.' THEY WERE GIVEN A GREAT RESPOSIBILITY. . . A PRIVILAGE. AND THEY OWED IT TO PRINCE TO COME THROUGH WITH A DECENT SPEECH !!!!!

if one doesn't do anything or say somethin from their heart, then why even do it at all? it's either that or doin a half-assed job, or not doin a gotdamned thing (which would get folks here pissed off, if that were so).

neither outkast nor alicia owed prince a damned thing, save for their thanks and gratitude.

most likely you're much older than me--i'm probably one of the "younger generation" that you referred to and showed disdain for in your initial post. i'm 23 years old, been a prince geeklette for 9 years--and what's this b.s. about none of us younger people bein able to use correct english? you must be payin attention to the wrong crowd of youngsters--there are plenty of us out there, like myself, who are intelligent and have excellent command of the english language.

it's statements like yours that make me feel absolutely ashamed--no, more like disgusted--to be a prince fan.

check yourself.

I have no disdain for anyone younger than myself. My comments were not about that . When I said the 'younger generation' I meant the younger generation of mainstream musicians, (eneterainers actually) who all seem to think it's cool to come across as illiterate. As for Keys and Outkast , I guess you guys have lower expectaions than I did when it came to how Prince was inducted. I thought he deserved better. I think when you are chosen to speak in front of an auidence (especially an audience full of greatness) you should give the language the respect it deserves AND COME FROM THE HEART. one out of two does not cut it for me. Plus the speech should have been about Prince not about them. It was a day to honor Prince and make people aware of his carreer. I don't need to hear about how many kings there were. What was the fucking point of the Alicia. Guess what there were a lot of Prince's too. Prince Charles, Prince Machiovelli, Prince Paul . . . . That was just dopey to say.
