If this is a Prince fan forum website, why do we have people on here bashing him and what he does?

Isn't is hypocritical (and really just flat out stupid) to come on here and post messages about "What was so special about Prince's solo," "RRHOF was not that great" and so on?

WTF???

I thought we were supposed to support this artist. Not bash him. Help me understand the logic behind this?

But i happen to think Xpectation is a bag of shite, and I think it's fair enough for fans to dislike aspects of the music. Why shouldn't they? If you're only a fan if you like every last drop of music that Prince puts out / performs come what may, then I'd be worried if I was Prince, because either he genuinely is producing perfect music all the time (I doubt even he thinks that) as far as these fans are concerned or he's got fans who aren't particularly discerning.

And anyway, wouldn't life here be a bit boring if everyone just started threads like, "Isn't Prince wonderful?!!" and everyone answered, "Yes, absolutely! I adore everything he's ever done".

When I joined this site, I thought I was joining a Prince fan site, but I quickly learned that there is much more going on here than that. The person who started the thread titled "What was so great about Prince's guitar solo...." was just asking for people's opinions about the performance because he/she had not even seen it yet, and wanted to know what it was like.

Case-in-point, I didn't like The Rainbow Children or a lot of his most recent stuff, but I still supported the man, his artistry and vision. The only thing I was pointing out was the fact that it seems as if people on this board are so quick to say Prince can't do this or can't do that, but yet they still continue to come to say how he's the "greatest artist in the whole wide world"...just sounds contradictory to me.

as for your main question: i dunno about you, but one of the reasons i like this site is because of the varied opinions. it's not all or all , but a bit of both. some people have the tendency to look at just one aspect of the opinions, instead of lookin at the entire picture.

People are miserable and misery loves company.

I enjoy that we all have varying opinions, but what I don't understand is why people come here who *only* have negative things to say. If folks don't like anything he does then they're better off somewhere else I reckon.

Even the people who supposedly disrepect Prince daily have had a kind word or two to say about the man. Personally I don't like half the stuff he has released and yet it is reassuring to come here and know others HATE the same songs I do. Just cuz he can walk on water does not make him perfect.

I think that's the place is you absolutely love love love prince and don't want to see anything negative or have any differing opinion. At least that's been my experience. I do agree that I don't understand all the dissers that come here lurking for trouble....like that guy who posted for cornbread recipies. I know where he's coming from cuz I have friends that are in the same boat as he is...they respect him and appreciate what he's done...they just don't think Prince craps golden cherries anymore. Nor do I understand just the opposite...the one that adulate him and think that if it's not put out by the purple one then it's crap. Like they listen to no one else. They offer no perspective on anything outside of Prince. These are the ones that dislike OutKast and George Michael and others and really fail to even recognize that there is good music outside of Paisley Park.

For me, the real riddle is why people would question the need for free expression or cry negativity and recoil in horror every time their precious idol is maligned.

Love the man, love his music. But I I don't think he's perfect like some fans seem to and am critical of many decisions he has made. What's wrong with voicing that? Pointing out an artist's mistakes or flaws does not equate to tearing him down. For that matter, if you just want to tear him down, and you can make a reasonable arguement, then why not? It's in the interest of intelligent debate, and there's room for all kinds of opinions.

As noted above, the NPGMC forums are the place if you want to read an asskissing lovefest with no dissenting opinion. I go there occasionally but it just feels kinda bizarre and cultish and censored to me.
