Musicology CD already certified platinum!

I was just doing the math, if tix to the concerts were $75 last year and this year they are 10 dollars, we are all basically paying 10 dollars for the CD since we all get one with the show/screenings.

How many venues already sold out? U do the math. This is better than any marketing scheme a record label could come up with. He is making a sale for every ass in a seat. He is probably going to move 3 million copies by the time the tour is over. They just aren't moving out of Tower Records or Best Buy...yet.

Prince is a genius. blunt

ps. Looks like he's going to be number one at the bank again, with or without a single nana

Nah... What Prince is doing is more than a little interesting in industry terms and not just in the context of Prince's career. It's a novel idea, and if it works, it's a bold new way for artists to move their material. If every big act started doing that on tour and all the units would count chart-wise, it's one of the most interesting marketing scheme in years. It does work better for independent artists who have not entered into distribution deals, as I imagine distributors would have a problem with tons of cds being sold 5 to 10 dollars cheaper at local concert venues.

But tickets aren't $100, so that doesn't make sense either.

Aerogram, you're right on the money. I'm as excited to see how the whole distribution of the CD thing goes as I am to hear what the songs sound like! It's a ballsy fucking move, and I like that.

I meant 10 dollars more ie. $85. Sorry bout the confusion. MEaning that 10 dollars more is going toward the CD if you think about it that way.

Peace. wink
