Will Rhonda and Rad become the new Wendy & Lisa?

I couldn't help but think of Wendy & Lisa when I saw Rhonda & Rad perform with Prince on the Leno show. I know they are totally different people and this is a different time, but both of these girls are writing their own music and have their own albums out.
Do you think Prince will start using their songwriting skills the way he used Wendy & Lisa's?
Would this be a good influence on his music?

Rhonda is def. cool but in honestly I get no "strong vibe" from Rad. She just doesn't have a 'presence ." She doesn't have that unique voice that Lisa had either...I've seen her 5 times with Prince and she still doesn't seen comfortable when the spotlight is on her.

I would say they definitely have the potential. They are both way talented and have the looks batting eyes!
I'm still waiting to see them sing into the same mic!!
Seriously, that would depend if Prince would ever LET ANYONE of his band in on the writing the way he did with W&L. I think it would be great if he would!

I think that's wrong. I also saw them in Vegas, LA and San Francisco and I think she sounds great! I have also seen her with her own band in San Francisco before and she has a really "strong vibe". I would agree that Prince could feature her a lot more, it would probably make her more comfortable.

Not that I care TOO much for Wendy and Lisa's input into Prince's music, I think it was a whole lot more significant and innovative than what Rad and Rhonda could add/have added to Prince's music. BUT, Rad and Rhonda are FINE women whom I'd both like to date!! .....and good musicians and singers in their own right! smile

Lisa has a beautiful voice and is still being talked about 18 years after leaving the Prince band, let's see if we're talking about RAD after the tour a year from now nod

I'm talking MUSICALLY. Of course like I said, it's a DIFFERENT time. They can't have the same impact as W&L did 20 years ago...

What's the future potential? You don't see any??

By the way, I think RAD knew Wendy already before she joined the NPG.

Musically Rhoda hasn't really done anything other than the live show. Yes I'm aware of what albums she's played on etc. but I'm talking co-writing credits. I just don't see Prince trusting anyone again MUSICALLY the way he did Wendy and Lisa, not a shot at Rhonda or Rad, just my opinion.

Why do folks always find the looks of Prince's band members so important? Bunch of superficial bullcrap.

The way ya put it could also be construed that they are Lesbian Lovers..New Wendy and LISA??? But I say no..Not like WENDY and LISA. Those 2 females wrote and collaberated on several Significant songs with Prince.

They won't be the new W and L. Thats like saying the new keyboardist will be the next Dr. Kinda like saying LeBron James is the new Jordan.

Good, but not great.
Cause in my possession there's a signed confession that says, I was the best you EVER had....too bad.

OKpimpn is right, W + L's vocals aren't all that.

IMHO, a comparison of the vocal harmonies of the Revolution on one hand, with the early 90's NPG on the other hand, would show the latter to be more complex and beautiful. Such intricate ensemble singing has been missing lately from P's music and I'm looking forward to hear the blend with this new band.

Looking at the influence on Prince is one way of looking at this. But when I think of Wendy & Lisa I have to weigh 4-7 years with Prince (less for Wendy, more for Lisa) against 18 years of a career afterward.

Perhaps another way of phrasing this is -- what has happened and will happen in their careers as musicians beyond Prince?

W&L have been consulted as not only session musicians but as uncredited 'song doctors,' co-writers and producers for some of the most critically highly-regarded musicians of the last decade (Neil Finn, Sheryl Crow, k.d. lang, Seal, Victoria Williams, and Pearl Jam come to mind readily and are probably the best known, but that's easily a short list. The number of associated artists in total is pretty huge, as my constantly-behind efforts on Girlbroslandia's associates page can attest!)

More recently, they've been sought after for film, and then television, scoring. The scoring gigs are still pretty highly 'niche,' but the music has become much stronger over the years and is finally beginning to result in higher-profile TV shows in recent years (Crossing Jordan, Carnivale). (Thank goodness, as I'll be the first to confess that with a couple of exceptions some of the movies have been a bit dodgy!)

I'm not sure what Rhonda and RADs 'extra-curricular' activities have been. (Perhaps someone here can educate me?) Frankly these things build over a long period, so perhaps time will have to tell!

I read on RADs site that she already collaborated with Tower of Power, Roger, Yellowjackets and played for Sheila E.
