prince under the direct influance of "on the corner"by miles davis?

prince's fusion style, his guitar playing on jazz cuts it sounds too simular to miles davies album "on the corner"-anybody else got that?

Nah, not really. I think NEWS, Xpectation and parts of The Rainbow Children (especially the ending section of the title track) are more influenced by In A Silent Way than On The Corner. I think of On The Corner as more of a soundscape rather than "music" (as in melodies etc). Corner is cool if you're in the mood, but most of the time it's not really listenable (not that it's bad, you just have to be in the right frame of mind and have no background distractions).

OnTheCorner

I'd have to disagree. "On The Corner" has a much longer sentence structure because of its direct use of minimalism (Miles reffered to it as "groovin'"). There were times when N.E.W.S would pick up on this. Plus, Miles relied on heavy editing to rearrange the original session. It's my impression that N.E.W.S was just taken straight from the recording.

strongly disagree with you here. there is no psychodelia at all in prince's jazz. i would say the america 12" sounds more like on the corner than anything he has been doing lately. the main voice in on the corner is miles. no trumpet in npg.

much different.

Interesting-

I think a likelier comparison can be made between NEWS and "Agharta"/"Pangaea". Prince's old groove, "Yes", is more simular in intonation to "On The Corner".

Good on you for listening to albums like, "On The Corner"! cool

Well lol I know it may sounds too predictable but the Miles Davis album that had its influential impact the most on Prince's music is "Kind Of Blue"(Power Fantastic is the biggest example of what I'm talking about, take Eric Leeds's word 4 it),,Bitches Brew comes as a 2nd(in terms of fusions and stuff like that).
