I was just watching his performance from AM(1980), and I was wondering whether Prince ever apologized to Dick Clark for the interview.....or does he ever get questioned about it? I also heard a rumor that he lip-synched that performance.....it was hard for me to tell. But I do know that some shows like that have their performers lip-synch for audio reasons.....I think Soul Train was like that at one point. At least it looked like it, to me. And does any1 know if you can get old Oprah tapes? how much? I want the one that had Prince on it from 95 or 96.( I think the whole show or almost the whole show consisted of just Prince and Oprah toured Paisley Park and interviewed him...he also performed some songs) I actually remember watching a little bit of that episode.....but back then I didn't think to tape it. I really found that episode on Emule(you can find almost every Prince tv appearance on Emule), but the quality isn't as good as an actual tape. I was looking at a list of all of his TV appearances.....and I ask myself..."Where the hell was I when all of this happened?" I could kick myself for not taping stuff I had access to. Anyway....that's all.


P.S Prince was soooo sexy on AM.....I wish I could've been alive to actually remember "that" Prince back then.

I can't see any reason why Prince would ever have to apologise to Dick Clark for the interview on American Bandstand. Perhaps it should have been the other way round, with Clark apologising! Apparently, Prince was a bit miffed when Clark asked him how he could come from Minneapolis 'of all places'. Although that particular interview does to some extent portray Prince as being rather rude and surly, I think it was down to perhaps that Prince was shy. A characteristic of many of his early interviews from what Iv'e heard and written in print.

It does appear Prince and the band lip-synched the performance as it sounds exactly the same as on audio. Although I cannot confirm that for definite.

As for finding copies of old Prince interviews, performances etc..I'm sure if you explored the internet to some degree you will find someone willing to offer you a copy at a price!

As far as I remember, all of the guests on that show lipsynched.
Must have been the shows policy.

Star Tribune interview, 1980:

"That tripped me out, when Dick Clark asked how I come
from Minneapolis, of all places. That really gave me an
attitude. TV personalities are hard to talk to. They come out
of certain bags. Music is music. A place is a place. "

I think, if DC had any ill feelings toward Prince, those have
subsided over the years. I'm sure he respects the musicianship
as much, or probably moreso, as anyone else.

prince's stageact was pretty weak back then now that i think of it.

If I remember right, all the acts lip-synched on that show back then. No surprise.
