TheFrog

As war drums beat in Babylon,
Cinnamon Girl starts to pray.
I never heard a prayer like this one -
Never before that day.

Tearful words of love-born (?) people she had never met before.
Asking God to grant them mercy in this face of holy war.

Cinnamon Girl...
Cinnamon Girl...

Cinnamon Girl of fixed parentage,
Never knew the meaning of colour lines. (?)
911 turned that all around,
When she got accused of this crime

So began a mass illusion -
"War on terror" alibi.
What's the use when the God of confusion
keeps on telling the same lie?

Cinnamon Girl...
Cinnamon Girl...

Don't cry - don't shed no tears
One lie won't make us fear,
Coz we know how this movie's ending....

[solo]

As war drums beat in Babylon,
And scorch the blood-red sky.
Militants bomb the foreign gun,
Both sides, children die.

Cinnamon Girl opens the book,
She knows will settle all the scores.
Then she prays after the war,
That there will not be any more...

Cinnamon Girl...
Cinnamon Girl...

Don't worry baby. S'gonna be alright.

That's my take anyway.

Damn, when you write the lyrics you realise how political it is...

lol When I saw the title to this thread, I thought it was about the Neil Young song of the same title. I wondered what it was doing in a Prince forum. Didn't know that Prince also has a song with the same title. Yeah, I know, I'm showing my age. evillol
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Tearful words of love-born (?) people she had never met before.

I hear it as, "Tearful words of love for peole she had never met before. Asking God to grant them mercy in this phase of holy war. "

I might be wrong though.

The song seems way more religious to me than political.

Is Mani the Cinamon girl?
RIP sad

Not Mani. This sounds to me like a political/religious commentary on 9/11 and the War on Terror. Cinnamon I would interpret as Indian? "fixed parentage" Saying they were blamed in the US for 9-11, I would think he is referring to the Sikhs, Hindus or moderate Muslims?

co-sign on the "mixed heritage". More of a statement about how people who just looked Islamic were catching heat after 9/11.

Jarret

Got to be the most blatant stealing of a classic rock song title (Neil Young, FYI) since Dead Milkmen did a song called "I Am The Walrus".

I thought the lyrics were that too...I was just listening to it and it sounds like that to me. I don't know who the Cinnamon Girl is...but, I've felt like her before smile

Must be hard work to be so negative all the time...

Prayer is a great deal more than "JW crap", as it is a deep part of the lives of billions of people of diverse faiths, but at least we see your mind is open to more than yourself.

What's more naive, believing one doesn't have all the answers, or believing one does?

Sorry for being picky here, I know you mean the right thing - but it's important to point out that it's impossible to "look Islamic". Islam is a religion anyone can join. You can, however, look Arab or Middle Eastern, which is probably what you mean.

And btw, I think that is exactly what the song is about.

I'm surprised that Prince actually NAMES 9-11 in that song. Usually he keeps a "generic" stance on his political views.

Great song, great beat and lyrics. I want to hear more political commentary from P . . .
