My first post, but I have been reading these forums for a long time...

I thought it would be great to have a thread about new, unknown acts that sound like or are influenced by Prince... I found a band from the Netherlands. They are called BuckShot: www.buckshot.nl and they have a first song online that's called 'Everything Like It Is' that you can download for free. Their site is in Dutch but if you just follow 'downloads' everybody should be able to find it. (otherwise: http://buckshot.bogusz.or...s/main.htm ) I think it has some great Prince influences for sure, especially the vocal harmonies.

What's even funnier, they used to play as a coverband and they recorded Purple Rain as a demo. I think it sounds great (great singer and guitarist, it's one guy!) and I sure have heard a lot of bands covering Purple Rain (and almost never a decent version... ) You can find that one here: http://www.buckshot.nl/co...nloads.htm

Sorry but they sound nothing like Prince. The song isn't bad though. The bassline reminds me of Rod Stewart and the harmonies if anything sound like Fleetwood Mack, not Prince by a long shot.

Aah, this thread is perfect to do some shameless self-promotion!

My band "2funkE" has got some heavy Prince/ early 80's electronic funk influences. Especially tracks like "Tuff Groove", "(I've Got To) Get Down", "Erotic Village" are on the Prince tip. Our first 12" will be released this summer on the San Francisco based MDEX label (featuring "Tuff Groove" and "Detroit").
