Anxiety

PAUL PETERSON: I was pretty intimidated. Prince was trying to make me at ease. He wrote on a piece of paper: W-R-E-C-K-A-S-T-O-W. He said, 'What's that?' I don't know. He said, 'Say it again.' He said, 'Say it faster. What is it?' I said, 'I don't know.' He said, 'Where do you buy your records?' I was just this suburban Norwegian coming into that whole thing. We all laughed, and that kind of broke the ice. He ended up putting that bit into a movie ['Under the Cherry Moon'].

Just read the articles and save your $12 because this was very cheaply put together. They didn't even use a color photo for the cover.

Have you guys taken the Prince trivia quiz? At the end, depending on your score, you get different little comments:

0% --- "Are you sure you are trying?"
10% -- "No, every answer was not \"C.\""
20% -- "Report to the CD store immediately."
30% -- "Have you ever heard of Prince?"
40% -- "Prince remains a mystery to you."
50% -- "C.J.? Is that you?"
60% -- "You're a good, casual Prince fan."
70% -- "Your Prince knowledge is better than average."
80% -- "You know almost as much about Prince as Jon Bream!"
90% -- "Prince? Is that you?"

A couple are funny, but I liked 50% best. CJ works for Star Tribune, right?

It's cool that the hometown paper would finally get around to a 10 page article. I guess the Hall of Fame induction finally makes them sit up an notice that the hometown kid was that good afterall.

Certainly one of the best Internet Prince resources ever done. The quotes achieve a balance between what makes you drop your jaw in awe and shake your head with disapproval.

Very interesting, exhaustive and well done. Whoever put it together should make a bio about him, as they have all the right interviews including the man himself!

This may be the best article ever written about the man by the mainstream media. It wasn't a piece that bashed him, nor did it depict him as some godlike figure. It showed all the different sides of his personality: Musician, genius, control freak, loving friend, passionate crusader, spiritual seeker, asshole, nice guy, shy boy, powerful man (and all points in between).

All in all, he came across as one hell of an artists who struggles with his own personal demons. He seems to have mellowed since his JW conversion, becoming more relaxed with his spirituality. I do have to wonder if the note Wendy got a few years back that she should convert and denounce her sexuality actually came from him. I think he had a whole lot of extemely militant JWs in his inner circle at the time who may have had a hand in that (and I don't think it was Larry. Even though Mr. Graham is devote, he's never been one to attack folks like that).

Anyway, this piece really gave a great overview of the man, both good and bad. bravo, Star Tribune! (and thank you for not involving CJ in this article wink )
