R'n'R hall of fame minute - by-minute report

In reverse time , but taken from
http://www.cleveland.com/...index.ssf?

9:01 p.m.
Prince accepts his award. "Please, please be seated" Gives thanks to Jehovah, and the rock hall. He says when he started out he was concerned with freedom to say what he wanted, produce what he wanted. He thanks Warner Bros. records for giving him that freedom. Without any spirtual mentors other than artists like Larry Graham, he embarked on a journey. Without real spiritual mentors, he says, it will only lead to decay. A real friend and mentor cares for your soul as much as his own, he says. And he wishes "everyone the best on this fascinating journey. It ain't over"

Alician Keys points out that there are many kings King Solomon, King Tut, King Kong, "but there is only one Prince." Alicia Keys hip-hop influenced speech is poetic. "He is so super bad he makes you feel super good." She says because of him she never wanted to be like anyone else but herself. Alicia Keys is proud and honored to induc Prince in the Rock Hall.

She calls the audience to their feet to "pay homage" to the one and only Prince.

Prince footage is now on the screen in NYC. The crowd screams as "Party like it's 1999" comes on. Prince has over the years sold 36.5 million copies of his albums in the United State alone according to the Recording Association of America. He's had 30 Top 40 hits, including "Little Red Corvette," "When Doves Cry" and "Kiss" He made a few films including the blockbuster Purple Rain.

Andre 3000 and Big Boy from OutKast and Alicia Keys take the stage to induct Prince. Alicia Keys is wearing a sequined black and silver low-cut dressed with cutouts in the front, while Andre 3000 is in true form with a blue and mint green argyle sweater and a cowboy hat.

Andre 3000 says his favorite cousin introduced him to Prince. He says it wasn't until he started to make music that he realized what Prince really brought to the game. Big Boy says Prince is a true inspiration for him. "He's been an inspiration to Outkast"

Update on that outfit - the "long" jacket is only long on one side, and short on the other. He ends his set with "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, thank you so much."

Prince's microphone is shaped like a pistol - so he is singing into the neck of the gun. Prince is a first time nominee for the Rock Hall of Fame.

He's raising the roof (literally with his hands in the air) as he steps back in time to an earlier Prince era with the song "Kiss" He has a full brass section backing him on the stage in New York City.

Now he's dancing in true Prince style during an instrumental moment in the song.

The crowd is going crazy locally for "Let's Go Crazy." Prince is rather conservatively dressed in a long white suit jacket and pants with a black collared shirt.

The audience in NYC is on their feet as confetti falls from the ceiling on the stage.

Well I guess. Still, I don't think he's used that name - Jehovah - too much in public.

Goodness, atleast give him a chance. People get all worked up over nothing. U act like he gave an entire speech about Jehovah (not that there's anything wrong with that it's his right).

Yeah, let the man be! What is it about some people that they cannot stand anything that has to do with spirituality? In most cases it helps people to lead a more balanced life.

Look at Prince for example, he's just far more relaxed now than he was like ten years back. It seems the guy finally has found some peace of mind. So give the guy a break, will ya!
RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

Some of y'all keep blaming Larry for the Jehovah influence, but don't forget, Mani is a Jehovah's Witness too. I think her influence is far greater than Larry's. But more to the point, what's the big deal?? We all know Prince is a Jehovah Witness now. Many of the recent articles on Prince have mentioned it. It's not a secret. Prince looks great, he sounds great and he and Mani seem truly happy. If it's working for him why knock it.
I can't wait to see the show.

I thank Jehovah for Prince!

Was just thinking recently about the early 80s, when MJ was the nice, wholesome little JW boy & Prince was so bad. Of course I loved Prince, but had to keep it on the down-low because I knew my parents, for one, wouldn't see past the sex & swearing to the deeper messages in his music.

It was bound to happen, folks! I'm so proud of the man.

Rise, rainbow children!

Yeah, but was Mani a JW BEFORE Prince was or only because he was?? Not that it matters to me, but I was trying to see your view/point. And, I agree with Handclaps, it's the same as someone saying they thank God (it's just his name for Him), and it's not like he went on and on about the religion. So, it was a cool/decent speech, thankfully.

Folks, you're either gonna have to get used to the JW thing, or you're gonna have to say goodbye. He really doesn't talk about it that much these days, so I really don't know what the big deal is.

Oh, and you can quit blaming Larry. Besides the fact that P is a grown man with a mind of his own, the Star Tribune article revealed that George Benson was just as much of an influence, and had introduced him to the religion.

this thread ain't about Jehova -- it's about one of Prince's most triumphant career moments. Some of y'all should relax.

Anyway, Prince gave a great performance, very kind words were said about him by Alicia and Outkast, and the crowd gave him multiple standing ovations. It is a time to be proud.
