Edits of Prince's songs - Who did them? Using Let's Go Crazy as an example, did Prince do the edits himself between the LP version, and the single version, and the maxi-single version? I know the maxi-single version, which is the full-length version, was originally going to be on the Purple Rain album, but then it was edited to make room for other material. And then the shortened 45 version cuts out most of the opening speech, and I think also a part of the chous near the end.
A recent post on here was from an article where two people were talking about mixing songs from the vault. Did Prince have people go in and do edits, and then approve or disapprove them? Did the record label have their own people on staff who regularly edited songs for singles? I would think that Prince himself would have been involved at least in the album edit, as that would be his artistic statement at the time. Does anybody know anything about these things?

I don't know for a fact - but, from what we know of Prince and his total control of his music, I would hazard a guess that he did/does the majority of the mixes, edits and extended versions - although he does/did employ engineers and co-producers such as Susan Rogers, Femi Jiya, David Z, Ricky Peterson, Wendy & Lisa and don't forget KAJ productions ya'll!

I was listening to Sheila E's 'The Belle Of St Mark' (Dance Remix) the intro is off the chain even now. I wonder if Prince did that?

It's usually the engineers who do the single edits, but Prince would have final say on how
they should be done. | |
