It would either be that or Manic Monday, which was also hugely popular.

I would say that based on ALBUM sales, The Bangles probably rated higher. As far as airplay/video play -- Nothing Compares 2 U was a number one. Does anyone know if Manic Monday was number one also? Something tells me that is was, but probably not for as long as NC2U . . .

As far as the dollar-fetching-amount per song, that would go to Uh Huh, which was rumored to get about $2 Million when Diet Pepsi bought it for Ray Charles to sing.

Uh... Prince supposedly wrote that there funky Coca Cola jingle that appeared in TV commercials in '93 - then it got revamped every other month by other artists until they finally stopped using it a couple of years ago. biggrin

As for Uh-Huh, that was a track Prince did that sampled Ray Charles' Pepsi commercial. I don't think it was meant for Ray Charles to sing, nor has he ever, as far as I know. Uh Huh is a long track - way longer than any commercial/jingle - and remains unreleased, so I doubt anyone payed Prince anything for it. But then, whadda I know. shrug
