In honor of Prince's induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame...

...talk about how you discovered Prince's music, how you became a big fan of Prince, what you love about his music, your top 5 favorite Prince albums and singles, your first Prince concert experience, and how much of a Prince fan are you now??

I'll start-- I discovered Prince in the early '80s, during my junior high school years when I was back in the Philippines, with songs such as Controvery, 1999, Little Red Corvette and Delirious and was intrigued about his music already, but didn't really become a fan until I first heard When Doves Cry on the radio-- it got me really excited-- the music video, then the movie Purple Rain came out!!

I was hooked from then on. I really love his music because of his boldness-- how he talks about sex and spiritual matters frankly-- and how his music sounded, especially back in the '80s, and the fact that he plays many instruments and does everything else when making an album really impressed me!! When my family immigrated in the U.S. in 1987, it was a dream come true when I saw him in my first Prince concert at the L.A. Sports Arena for the Lovesexy tour!!

My top 5 Prince albums:
1. Purple Rain
2. Sign O' The Times
3. The Rainbow Children
4. 1999
5. The Love Symbol

My top 5 Prince songs:
1. When Doves Cry
2. Kiss
3. Adore
4. Morning Paper
5. I Love U But I Don't Trust U Anymore

As far as being a Prince fan, it tapered of in the mid-90s, during the name-change hoopla, but gained interest again with the release of the Rave album and The Rainbow Children album!! I last saw him at the Kodak Theater for the One Night Alone tour and can't wait to see him in concert this year!!

And congrats to Prince for his induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!!

My first taste of Prince's music came when my older brother purchased the 45 for I Wanna be Your Lover, I was 7 and I loved it. He kept me in the loop with Prince until Controversy came out then I started listening more and more on my own. He took me to see Prince on 4/5/83 on the Triple Threat Tour, I've been hooked ever sense.

Top 5 albums:

1. Parade
2. Lovesexy
3. 1999
4. SOTT
5. The Rainbow Children

Top 5 singles:

1. Mountains
2. When Doves Cry
3. Pop Life
4. 7
5. Anotherloverholenyohead

I'm still love Prince and will be celebrating my 25th Anniversary as a fan with my 25th show by Prince in L.A. in a couple of weeks. There's been some moments where I wanted to walk away but only because of the "denounce your homosexuality" bullshit to Wendy and shoving the JW thing down our throats.

I was born a Prince fan, when most babies are going "goo-goo", a was going "oowwa"!!! My mother would play his records, and I'd dance and sing, and when the record ended, I'd start to cry. Apparently, Prince shut me up, so my parents bought me all his albums when they came out.

My top 5 Prince albums

1)Sign 'O the Times
2)Purple Rain
3)Dirty Mind
4)1999
5)ONA Live

Top 5 Prince singles

1)Purple Rain
2)Let's Go Crazy
3)1999
4)Raspberry Beret
5)Kiss

I love Prince today, because he's making headlines by playing music, instead of the other ways he made headlines back in the day. Nothing is distracting people from the music. I've always looked at Prince as a musician first. All that other shit is secondary
JERKIN' EVERYTHING IN SIGHT!!!!!

I discovered PRINCE at age 7, while at the drive inn with my parents to see PURPLE RAIN, I didnt really remember all of the movie, except for the performances, they were the parts of the film that I still remembered to this day and had an everlasting effect on my life, which evolved into me being a huge fan later on in life...by 1988, I was hooked, after purchasing LOVESEXY with my own allowance.

PRINCE gave me inspiration and also helped mold my way of thinking in terms of being free with my sexuality and just knowing god and the truth!
I became more open minded, his music took me places I had never been before...especially that LOVESEXY record!

My Top 5 Albums By PRINCE are:
1. LOVESEXY
2. PURPLE RAIN
3. CONTROVERSY
4. PARADE
5. SIGN O TIMES

My Top 5 Songs are:
1. PowerFantastic
2. I Know
3. Lovesexy
4. Dolphin
5. The One

Theres so much more to say!

PRINCE THANK YOU for all the inspiration and music that has somehow become a soundtrack to my life!

Hooked on the first single Soft and Wet at eight or nine. I loved Prince because he was different and I was/am different so he was like a superhero for us freaks. Like, it's okay to be who you are, you know? What drew me to his music and still draws me is first off, it's funky. Second, it feeds my soul and makes me feel good. It's been my escape for so long and on my worst days I can still always find a Prince song that makes me feel better. The first time I saw Prince was at an aftershow in Chicago. I couldn't afford to see him at United Center for 75.00 a pop, so I went to this instead. When he took to stage and played drums to Cream, the tears flowed. It was like I felt him enter the room. A little fammish, but I don't care: that's just how it was. I think as I have become older and more mature, I can see him as the human being he is, fallible, and I can begin to let him down off the pedestal I had him on for so long. I hope to get to meet him someday, still. I won't be able to speak, but I think the tears streaming down my face will somehow let him know what he has meant to me. I may bitch and gripe on the Org, but all bullshit aside, the mention of a Prince tour or television appearance and I'm transformed into the teenager that yells and screams when she sees her favorite artist. He does my soul sooo good.

This is hard... I was first exposed to Prince through Top 40 radio back in 1979 with "I Wanna Be Your Lover." Being only 12 and no interest in following someone's music career, I didn't hear of him again until "1999" came out on radio. But it was seeing him on the big screen in Purple Rain that he impressed me as the greatest guitarist I had ever seen. First concert I attended was the Parade Tour, July 3, 1986.

Even harder to make a top album list, but you know what #1 is...

1. Lovesexy
2. Parade
3. Purple Rain
4. The Black Album
5. Sign 'O' The Times
6. 1999
7. The Rainbow Children
8. Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic
9. Emacipation

Top songs...

1. Anna Stesia
2. I Wish U Heaven
3. Lovesexy
4. Glam Slam
5. 7
6. The Cross
7. Let's Go Crazy
8. The Beautiful Ones
9. Kiss
10. Mountains
11. Anotherloverholenyohead
12. Sometimes It Snows In April
13. The Ballad Of Dorothy Parker
14. Let's Pretend We're Married
15. Joy In Repitition
16. Elephants And Flowers
17. Live 4 Love (original version)
18. Le Grind
19. Bambi
20. I'm Yours

Top concerts of all 13 times I've seen him...

Lovesexy (1)
Parade(1)
Celebration 2002 (7 Nights)
Celebration 2000 (1)
Hit & Run 2001 (1)
Jam Of The Year (2 including Aftershow)

I was first exposed to Prince through Right On! magazine. First thing I ever bought was the I Wanna Be Your Lover single, I was 12. I was aware of him and the music he released through the Dirty Mind/Controversy years but wasn't into him because, being the ignorant little kid I was, I thought he was weird. I remember when he did IWBYL on American Bandstand and was spooked by him not speaking. It took 1999/Little Red Corvette/Delirious becoming hit singles that made me warm up to him. I bought the 1999 album. Listening to it was a life changing experience. I consider myself a hardcore fan since the day I bought that album. First concert was the 86 Parade tour at MSG.

My five favorite albums
1.Sign o The Times
2.1999
3.Purple Rain
4.The Black Album
5.everything else

Songs
1.Joy In Repition
2.DMSR
3.When Doves Cry
4.7

I discovered Prince when I was 8 (I'm 30 now). One of my dad's friends was into that cd and told some story about this guy he was playing and got booed when he opened for the Rolling Stones. I didn't understand why because he was good. And then when Purple Rain came out after that I was hooked.at 9!

Fav songs
1. If I was your girlfriend
2. Beautiful Ones
3. Strange Relationship
4. Question of U
5. Why Should I love U? (Kate Bush song) and

Fav albums
1. SOTT
2. Purple Rain
3. 1999
4. Acoustic cd from Crystal Ball
5. Parade

I saw the end of one show during '97. got lost on the way there and couldn't find the right road to the venue so i ended up just catching the encore.
But a friend came through 2 weeks later and bought me a ticket to the Raleigh show. We went and it was very good! He didn't stop playing. When the band took a break, he sat on the piano and did a medley of the ballads until they came back on. 2 hours straight set.

Controversy
Purple Rain
Around The World In A Day
Love Symbol Album

Top 5 Prince Singles:

Purple Rain
Do Me Baby
1999
When Doves Cry
Sexuality

I first got into Prince in 1981. A friend of mine in junior high lent me a cassete tape of 3 songs off Controversy. He said it was the DJ copy (not heard on the radio) and I went home and listened to the greatest side every put out by prince. Controversy, Sexuality and Do Me Baby. Then when 1999 came out i was hooked! I love every song on the album and told my friends about it but they would say how girlie he looked but i didn't care. Then when Purple Rain came out it shut them up real quick. Will never 4get my friend mike doggin prince 1 minute and then jammin when doves cry in his ride when it came out.

Congrats prince!!! It's about time you get the credit that you deserve.

In recognition of prince being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, I put up a miniture poster of the Jam of Year (1997) in my office at work.

your favorite song is bob george???

that is different. this song grew on me. i thought it was just too weird at first, but the more i listened to the black album in its entirety and stopped skipping past this one, the more i began to like it. i would not say it is one of my favs though.
