When I first bought the Mountains 12", I figured that Alexa De Paris would be the second piano instrumental (not Venus De Milo) featured in UTCM and on the Playboy bootleg tape of Parade... but put down the needle and heard a dull, muzak wallpaper instrumental with absolutely nothing memorable about it. I think this is Prince's worst b-side ever, maybe even worst SONG, full stop. Any other candidates?

pink cashmere..was not on my list of faves..or even the list of cuts i would listen to..it always got skipped..

until i really listened to it one day..

one of my faves

I had the exact same experience...it actually wasn't until Underneath the Cream came out and someone mentioned that it evoked the same mood in them as Pink Cashmere that I really listened to Pink.....and oh. my. God.

One of his best songs ever...it's up there with Joy in Repetition in terms of its hypnotic effect on me. That guitar solo alone is almost painful in its beauty.

Alexa de Paris is not the worst b-side by a long shot. That would be Horny Pony....

Alexa De Paris was always one of my favorites. Now, a full length instrumental piano version of "An Honest Man" (part of which is in the opening scene of UTCM) would be awesome!

I have this wild fantasy of one day hearing Alexa De Paris being played for the routine of one of the figure skaters at the Olympics (can someone send Michelle Kwan this song please?).

You gotta be in the right frame of mind to "get" Pink Cashmere, but once that happens, look out. I used to think this song was dullsville, but one day it just clicked...and I looooove it now. And the acoustic version from the Celebration? drool

As for best instrumental, have we all forgotten about N.E.W.S already? surely North is his best instrumental!

Maybe you don't like because, as you have said, you were expecting another kind of song, but forget that and give it a chance! it's worthy! I only have the extended version which was included on the letitgo single, never heard the shorter version, but I love this one in his entirity, I just wish his instrumental albums have more pieces like this.

For me, it's his 2on best instrumental (venus de milo, the 1srt)

I had that single and loved it because Alexa De Paris was on it! but...my car stereo got stolen the day it was in there:(sadsad...I know who stole it threw it away. I haven't fount it again since:(sadsadsadsadsadsadsadsadsadsadsad

Naaaaah bro. I must disagree. That song is one of the unknown classics. Instrumentals always rock, and the fact that it doesn't even SOUND like him makes it even better. It's always a challenge to make songs that don't sound like the same old same old, and in this case in 1986, he hit the nail on the head.
Cause in my possession there's a signed confession that says, I was the best you EVER had....too bad.

Okay, I listened again and what the hell are y'all on about? It's Dullsville! Slow, casual guitar work from P, Sheila E sounds bored on the drums... I think it's pure filler!
