Help me in my Prince vs. Andre 3000 battle

My younger brother is not convinced that most of the tracks on Andre 3000's "The Love Below" are very similar to, if not inspired by, Prince songs. He has challenged me to create a Prince CD that, track for track, mirrors "The Love Below". Now, I am half way tempted to give him Parade and The (real)Black Album and tell him to shut up.

However, I would like help from those who know "the Love Below" and who love Prince. I already have some songs in mind but here is "the Love Below" tracklist--

1. The Love Below (Intro)
2. Love Hater
3. God (Interlude)
4. Happy Valentine's Day
5. Spread
6. Where Are My Panties?
7. Prototype
8. She Lives in My Lap
9. Hey Ya!
10. Roses
11. Good Day, Good Sir
12. Behold a Lady
13. Pink & Blue
14. Love in War
15. She's Alive
16. Dracula's Wedding
17. Take Off Your Cool (with Norah Jones)
18. Vibrate
19. A Life in the Day of Benjamin Andre (Incomplete)
20. [Untitled Hidden Track]

I am thinking about "Dreaming about you" for "Prototype" and "When you were mine" for "Hey ya". Please help me out.
"New Power slide...."

Honestly, IMO, I don't really hear too many Prince influences on The Love Below. The only songs I could see that may closely resemble a Prince influence would be "Happy Valentines Day" (which sounds like a song from the Grafitti Bridge sessions), "She Lives In My Lap" (which sounds like a Camille version of "She's Always In My Hair") and "She's Alive" (which sounds like an outtake from the Parade sessions). "Vibrate" may also have some Prince-like elements, but moreso because of the screwed background voice and the reversed technique used throughout the song. Other than that, I don't really hear that much of Prince. With this album, I hear more EW&F, Cameo and P-Funk.

However, I believe their 2000 release, Stankonia, has more Prince-like influences than this album does-LINN DRUMS ALL OVER THIS RELEASE! headbang Check "Ms. Jackson", "Red Velvet," "Toilet Tisha" and "Slum Beautiful." wink

While i can hear clear Prince influences in Andre's music i wouldn't say any of his stuff mirrors the little man's.

Andre has said himslef that his greatest musical influence is Prince. Just as Sly was Prince's before him.

I find this "Andre copying Prince" thing rather negative.
He has made a really good album with some great tracks. He looks great, he's different, he's cool- and he gives prince props whenever he gets the chance. Us Prince fans should be more than happy.

Respect to Andre. I hope him and Big Boi continue to make music- they really are one of the best things out there at the moment.

I would say that the moment that i find most Princely on his new lp is that segue when he's talking to god. when i hear that i think of prince. think about the conversations we've seen Prince do with god on record and in concert.

i'm sure those that have heard it will know where i'm coming from.

guys doesn't the fact that were having this thread now as opposed to when "Stankonia" came out mean anything. THE WHOLE LOVE BELOW ALBUM IS A RIP OFF OF ATWIAD!!! There was even an article about this in Columbus OH's The Other Paper. He's tripping on Prince right now but I find it rather sad. The poor smuck can't even sing well or let alone play an insturment & now he's gonna have to follow this album up with another princely sounding record or it won't sell. I'm not gonna take the time to do a comparision of every song on the album but I will point out that HEY YA IS JUST LIKE RASPBERRY BERET!!!! On a final note if you have the 'Kast album listen to Big Boi's half as it is better and actually stays with the genre of music that Outkast is, hip-hop.

Don't know 'bout the rest, but She Lives In My Lap uses the

Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Sounds to me like you're trying to get your brother to be a prince fan, and at the same time you're a little intimidated by newer music.. i think you need to listen to the outkast with an open mind.. and not be confruntational with your brother regarding his taste and try a different approach.. cause right now you're probably making him hate prince as apposed to opneing his eyes to his music...

princes influences can be as transparent as a3000's at times... so embrace the next generation and if your brother is a real music lover he'll eventually find his way to prince anyway...

so smile and get ready for musicology!

No no-my brother is a Prince fan and I am the one who burned him a copy of "The Love Below" he just doesn't see the similarities, which in my mind are obvious.
