His 80's funk was propulsive, driven, energetic, pulsating!

90"s+ funk, while Uncatagorically funky, is limper on the whole: "1+1+1", "The Work", "Prettyman", "Musicology".They rely on GROOVE without propulsion.

Livelier funk is better than funk just sort of "there".

Look @ what "Possessed" made him do onstage, compared to "1+1+1"--it's not just age, its the trance!

shit, I've been a Prince fan for almost a year and I thought I was really making some progress toward getting through his catalogue. There's no way I will ever get my head around the man with all these songs sad
How did you guys keep up with it in the 80s? It seems like he can make good music faster than I can listen to it.

Keeping up WAS hard even if one started out in the eighties, especially when suddenly there was this switch from vinyl to CD which basically meant one had to start one's collection all-friggin-over again. In fact, there's still a few items I have yet to get myself. I guess one could say that keeping up with Prince is a lifetime - and extremely expensive - project. biggrin

I dunno, but it's really tiresome. shrug

actually, namepeace basically just answered his own question: they're newbies. they have much to learn 'round here. that, or the new batch of newbies we've been gettin are somewhat of a bad batch....hmm

i have been reading some of the newbie posts and decided to revisit this.

u r right. everybody that comes here knows more about Prince than 99% of the population before they get here, so I guess they come in with the attitude of, "these guys don't know half as much Prince as I do," and then after being here a while, they eventually learn that there are tons of orgers who know more than they do.

I thought I knew a lot about Prince before I came to the Org. But I learned that I have a lot more to learn.

Thumparello

Yes I agree his 80's music was funkier. But he was at his peak then creatively. Plus he has changed. He's not experimenting with drugs and chasing every hot babe like he was. Yes he did drugs like every other rock star. It amazes me how some people think he's some goodie 2 shoes. He's human and has flaws.
