Click on this and read right now. It's about the funk.

Yes Jay Leno replayed last night in the UK and this time I captured Prince on there doing Musicology. Man, it is FUNKY. Bassline, and drums are whack!

I actually think the interview was very cool too, some of my friends were over and they are not Prince fans and they dug what he said about bringing real music back. I think Prince's angle on this one works. It's amazing how Prince still has got it and in fact, his freshness really shows. I know the track is not vintage Prince, but it IS funky. The groove is infectious and his music IS true to his influences and in a sense I think this album will recapture to an extent, some of his casual fans. I guess Prince used to be nasty and shocking and over the top with sexual innuendos etc to pack the punch to get attention, like Sexy MF and Gett Off did 12 years ago. That was probably the time he last had alot of attention with the mass audience. I think by now saying, the message is: in an age of music=money=music=money where artists have to go to extreme lengths to shock and get noticed..now it would be more shocking if Britney or Christina DIDN'T do something tarty or smut/slutty super sexed up, like the Toxic video, or Christina's Diirty, Prince's answer is...hey I won't play that game, I refuse to take part in that ridiculous challenge. Cause, hey it has moved away from the music a bit...I mean, Toxic is a good track, great dance track....but the way to get a hit, airplay and loads of publicity, isn't about the track, it's about fascination with 'what' they'll do next'. Either that or you have to be adorably cute, or be a Pop Idol or, a sell out, or something... Prince isn't taking part and is trying to remind that it IS about music to him. OK, we get that Prince. We get it. But, now we seem to be in a world of pop music where your sexuality, your court cases, your drug taking, your piecings (Michael Jackson, George Michael, Robbie Williams, Christina) are what validates you and reinforces your place in people's heads. People seem to need more than the music, they need some controversy to go with it to make it work. Pop has an extra dimension these days, not just musicology it's also about videos, clothes, extragant lifestyles, who are you going out with...all the rest. I am not sure, he will actually change much, but Prince may make some people think, maybe minds will be opened a little...I am sure at his concerts this year he will have a good chance of getting the message across, doing what it is he does best. I am glad he doesn't take part in the media's game of contoversy in today's climate....but in a way, he contributed to it himself many years ago, that is what helped build him to his position. Amazing isn't it. Reminds you how pioneering he was.

You know what though, one of marketings oldest tricks is to get free publicity around a release and get people talking about your product or you or some shocking thing that people actually talk about on the bus, or at the coffee machine. Look at The Passion...I mean most Christian's out there are promoting that film by word of mouth...It's freaking powerful...I think in a way Price had that...People used to watch him and think, oow man what's the 'Imp of Perverse' gonna do next!? What crazy thing is going to come out of his mouth? Now, Prince is talking about Music.... I don't know if it's is engaging enough for people out there to really think about for long...I mean in this busy, dangerous world we westerns now live in, where we aer bombarded with technology and marketing for everything, it is hard to find time to think too much about anything...we are only talking about pop music in terms of, have you seen the latest blah blah..

Anyway, a few points i wanted to blurt. Feel free to add to this and tell me your thoughts and feelings on these subjects as I would LOVE to hear what YOU think.
