Bad choice of words. The original poster isn't ignoring anything - on the contrary. To some degree it's a valid question; not because we as his fans would give a rat's ass whether he likes to paint his skin with lighter make-up sometimes or not, but because more recently he has incorporated a lot of racial themes into his lyrics. Though if Chookalana would had payed any attention to the more recent pictures we've seen over the last few years he/she would have noticed Prince has considerably decreased his use of the lighter make-up (just compare the new pics and video material to the "Gold"-era ones). And I have to say, the change is for the better. Skinpaint and beard? Hmmm.

I am black and my skin lightens during the winter, as does most blacks, and darkens in the summer. That might explain this. Also, the camera lighting could explain the difference.

Maybe that way he can have that ultimate crossover look. He wears ton of makeup , nuff said. Have any of you seen Little Richard (Richard Penniman)without his makeup he's about two shades darker.
Prince blew up in the 80's black artist started getting nose jobs etc. to appeal more to a white audience. Patti Labelle, Prince, Morris Day, Michael Jackson and entire Family, George Benson etc have all had those noses whacked down. Now for all those in denial come forward! Prince has said in several older articles he was half Italian and black. We all know this is not true. Even claimed his mother was white at one point. Wonder what she thought about that? Now he's black again, like he never was? JUST ENJOY THE MUSIC!

The confusion is due to all the different magazines Prince has been in over the years. Some darken him up and some don't. Sometimes the makeup he wears is darker. One of the most accurate Prince magazine covers was the Vibe cover. Don't remember the year.
Truth be told, Prince's skin really is white. He was born that way. It's a genetic flaw. Like white tigers. Prince really is one of the few white black men on the planet. Not albinism, just white. And that's what Michael Jackson, with his industrial strength skin bleach, has tried to copy. He just used the vitiligo story as a front. If you people on knew how rare Prince really is, well, someday I guess everyone will know. ________________________________________________

you must not be black or even a person of color for that matter. that is the only way i can imagine how you could not understand this. people of color fluctuate in complexion quite often depending on their environment. it isn't very complex.

well, this part is true. Truth be told, Prince's skin really is white. He was born that way. It's a genetic flaw. Like white tigers. Prince really is one of the few white black men on the planet. Not albinism, just white. Prince's complexion is not uncommon in black people. He was born to black parents that happen to be very mixed. Different genes appear in offsprings. Try going to Brazil, or the Caribbean and you will see how common this is. People of color come in all types of shades.

That's absolutely correct, my sister and I have/had completely different colouring. However, I have gotten lighter over the years and it is because I have not been exposed to as much sunlight. I think it's pretty cool how Prince can look so different --kinda like Jill Jones and how different she looks with the curly blonde mane.

Prince's skin has not turned white. I am 46 years old and i have been a Prince fan from day one and attended his very first concert and Prince has always been a very light skin guy.

prince is blk, but blacks are of mixed heritage
Ahem...so are all whites. Africans were the first humanbeing on this planet. Everyone else is descended from Africans, regardless of how light you are. Therefore whites are of "mixed heritage" too. The human race is African. Everyone else is a mutation, not an evolution. See "The Journey of Man" book or PBX Docimentary. Now besides the geneological answer. 60% of all whites living in America have a direct Black ancestor. The truth is there is only one race ..the human race. However their is racism, a rather modern form of mental illness. One Love, Don To All the Haters on the Internet

Whether prince is orange, purple is not even worth the time to discuss. I'm offended by this thread, as an african american/puerto rican that people actually walk around and think this way about people. All I see is his music, and his sexiness. Relationships based on the physical are over and done. You would rather have fun with only one! (Holy River)

Well we Embrace him as a African American Male . He's simply Gorgeous. I Never thought of him as White. Everyone asks me if he's Puerto Rican. Why do we ALWAYS SEE SHADE? That is a BIG THINg isn't it? Can't we just see PEOPLE? HUMAN BEINGS? MALE, FEMALE and Henceforth Embrace LOVE?l

Very true. Guys this topic is so silly with so many speculation. Well just look at Prince's appearance on American bandstand when he was 19yrs old, and you'll see that he was very light skin even back then... it's genetic. some people are darker and some are lighter. this should end the speculatioin.....

There was a picture of Prince's mother posted here shortly after she died. I guess it was from the StarTrib. Anyway, she was a beautiful women who was very light skinned with green eyes. Prince looks so much like her, so I guess that's where he got his light skin and green eyes. Maybe his mom has a white parent. Who knows. But as someone mentioned earlier, I think photograpy and make-up have changed his complexion over the years. Even photos as recent as this years Grammys vary in degrees of color. In People Magazine he was darker and in US he was lighter. Since these photos were taken at the same event, clearly the magazines are playing with his color.
Now, can we please leave White Chocolate's color alone.

There's a difference between: Racism - "Black people are evil" Facts - "That man's skin is black" We're not judging him on his colour at all. It's just rather odd how quickly it changed so dramatically.

Prince's background is something I have kinda been curious about. Perhaps is one of his grandparents white or somebody in his family? I do wonder because I know that his parents are black, but he looks more bi-racial than other celebrities (ex.Halle Berry, Lenny Kravitz). I know he doesn't have a skin disease or I know he hasn't been messin' around with no bleaching cream like MJ, because P has always given me the impression that he was conceited with his looks and he never seemed unhappy or insecure with his looks. Just his height. If anyone comes across any pictures of his parents, young or old. Please post.
