UNDER THE CHERRY MOOON DVD?!?

Hey guys have heard rumors of UCM being released on DVD possibly and just wanted to know your guys thoughts on this. Personally I would love to have the ability to select either color or b&w on this considering it was filmed in color than later transfered to b&w due to Princes vision of the film. I also would hope that they would include the original ending in which Christopher Tracy doesnt die and gets Mary and off into the sunset type ending which was first shot. Whatcha guys think? razz

Love the idea of color and b&w. Unfortunately, I can barely stand to watch the damn thing. I saw it for free before it came out and almost wanted my time back since there was no money involved. Love Prince, but HATE the movie.

Great soundtrack, though!

I'd love to have it on DVD. Never thought about the color vs. b&w issue, but I wouldn't mind having it in both. If I had to choose, I'd probably go with b&w. Unlike some folks, I actually enjoyed it, even moreso after watching it a couple of times more. (I'd like that alternate ending!)

They'd then have to end the movie with the alternate mix of Sometimes it Snows in April. The one that begins with "Tracy ran off into the sunset with Mary soon after a long fought civil war"

I'm looking forward to the DVD release, colour or otherwise, because I just love that film. It cracks me up every time!

lol lol lol lol

I absolutely love that film. I don't know why.....even I can see it's not the best film/script to ever exist but there is something about the mood and style of that film that just.....well it strikes a chord with me.

I think it's total baseline and I love it!!!!! smile

yeah there is something about that movie! I can watch it and totally disregard the fact that it isn't all that good technically. I think it is the way the movie not only makes you feel like you don't know where you are it also makes you feel like you don't know exactly when it takes place.

This sort of thing HAS been done on the past. The Coen Brother's film 'The Man Who Wasn't There' was shot much the same way that UTCM was (in color, then released in black and white). Although only the color version is available in the US, the Hong Kong DVD is a 2 disc set with the black and white AND color versions on it. It's a neat thing to have and compare.

From what I know, the movie was shot in color, but not completely. When it was shot in color, it was shot in a way to light it so that it would look odd. For example, much more green and red filters to create extra shadows on the sets. It was NEVER intended to be shown in color and the rumour that there is an edit of it in color somewhere isn't exactly true. Alot of this comes from the MOUNTAINS outtakes, but even on those, you can see a difference in quality of the black and white because they were lit differently.

The bottom line is that there isn't a version that exists in color, to the best of my knowledge.

There are additional scenes which didn't make it into the film (an opening sequence where Christopher Tracy is talking to a statue of Venus Demilo, and is interupted by Tricky for instance). Those would be cool to have on the DVD, but save your breath about the color version. That ain't happenin'.
The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

I can't wait for the DVD!! I'm sorry, but this is one of my favorite movies. I love Prince's sense of humour throughout the movie, the music & the romanticism of it all. It would be cool to see in color too, however I dig the BW. I gotta have it.
