Rhonda is def. cool but in honestly I get no "strong vibe" from Rad. She just doesn't have a 'presence ." She doesn't have that unique voice that Lisa had either...I've seen her 5 times with Prince and she still doesn't seen comfortable when the spotlight is on her.

Lisa couldn't sing worth a shit!!! whofarted All she did was breathed and whispered in the mic like she was sexy. barf

Apparently this guy has never heard "A Place In Heaven" (outtake) or "Jonathan" from the Girl Bros. CD

OKpimpn is right, W + L's vocals aren't all that.

IMHO, a comparison of the vocal harmonies of the Revolution on one hand, with the early 90's NPG on the other hand, would show the latter to be more complex and beautiful. Such intricate ensemble singing has been missing lately from P's music and I'm looking forward to hear the blend with this new band.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one thinking straight on this board. clapping

I heard from Sheila E.'s camp that RAD's baby girl is turns 1 year old this week, that's probably why she was not at HoF. No need to panic.

Aiight, I hardly ever post anymore, but on this topic I just can't bite my tounge.....

Let's get this straight once and for all.....Wendy and Lisa did not make Prince a superstar. Enough already about them.....let them fade into obscurity like all the other average musicians he's played with. Sheez! Some of you act as if Prince couldn't create a decent tune without them. GET OVER IT!!!!! PUUUUUHHLEESE!!

Prince needs Wendy and Lisa like a rich man needs more money.....he's already got anything that they could offer.

You should have kept biting your tongue nod Wendy and Lisa are FAR from average musicians and that comment alone speaks for how little you know about them. He can create a decent tune without them sure, but so can they without him as they keep proving with each release.

I totally agree. Wendy and Lisa are far from average, they are great! I think that they did have an influence on Prince's music and it was a good one. I just wanted to know if anyone thinks something good like this could happen again, now that he does have some talented females in the band. wink

Both Rad and Rhonda played with Sheila E. in the past. Did they ever do any writing together when they were with Sheila?

While I agree that their time with Prince did create some great music, their input has been a small one when you look at Prince's entire career. Yet far too many people around here seem to act as if Wendy and Lisa were what made him so special, and without them he basically sucks (you know who you are). They were the backup band and solid contributors, thats all. True, I went a little far calling them average, but I'm not too far off. They may be good musicians and songwriters, but they are not superstars (haven't noticed any Wendy & Lisa world tours or incrdible albums).

yes, it's good to see them play together again occasionally, but for me, otherwise good riddance. I could think of 100 musicians I'd like to see him work with before them again. They are not the pinnacle of Prince's musical existence, so let the dead horses lie.....

if you love their music, more power to ya (I don't hate them).....support them to the fullest. Just drop the longing for a reunion that's not going to happen and comparing every prince band to the Revolution (which BTW, was not even his best band).

I'm honestly not writing this in defense of W&L specifically. But this statement seems a bit naive of the corporate music industry. There is no link between talent and the machine of superstardom. Wendy & Lisa do, in fact, have some incredible and critically acclaimed albums behind them. As do Elliott Smith, Aimee Mann, Neil Finn, Jeff Buckley, and literally hundreds of other artists who don't quite 'click' with the corporate drive of the music industry despite critical acclaim.

Without the bucks, without the marketing, there is no top-selling album, no world tour. As labels consolidate and there are fewer indie resources out there, this becomes more and more the case. It has little to do with talent. In fact, it may be the opposite -- many radio stations deliberately avoid anything that might really excite the audience, because the songs people tend to really 'love' will tend to polarize people -- for every one that really loves a song, there is usually someone who hates it equally passionately. So the corporate radio stations choose playlists that are deliberately 'average' because this drives their ratings and ad spend.

I'd thought Prince fans are more acutely aware of this, given his own struggles with the labels.
Perhaps not!
