The books were sold through retail outlets, and you might be able to track them down as 'Used' on online retail sites or auction sites.

When I was a kid I used to pick them up from the library. The transcriptions however aren't of very high quality - as is the case with any rhythmically-inclined music. There's often very little that has been transcribed. Maybe the melodies, and the chords - but Prince's music is just so much more than that.

Actually I think you'd be much better off googling for some MIDI files and opening up them on some note editor. Should do the trick.
