I heard "Delirious" on the radio and I was hooked. I loved how it sounded poppy, without being pop music, swingy without being swing music, and funky without being funk music. It was the fabulous fusion of the 3 and I was a goner. "She made me glad to be a man"

In 1981 I was bored so I started going through my older brother' album collection. I was looking at all the album covers when I came to Controversy. I thought, Wow, this guy looks interesting. So I played it. By the time I got to Private Joy I was hooked. The way he combined religion, sexuality, and funk blew my mind. I had to find every album he made before Controversy and couldn't wait for the next ablum to come after it. Then came 1999. Pure Purple Heaven!!! CALL ME A DREAMER 2!

1999 first attracted me to Prince. I heard the songs on a jukebox in an Air Force bowling alley where my dad was stationed in "West" Germany. I fell in love with the music and lyrics to 1999, Delirious and Little Red Corvette.
We moved back to the states. My older sister had 1999 on tape (I'd heard the songs but didn't know who did them) and when she came to visit, I listened to it over and over. When she left, I went and bought my own lp. Only the 2nd one I'd ever bought (First being The Sugar Hill Gang). THEN I saw the pictures and the videos and OH MY GOD!!! The way he MOVED!!! Then Purple Rain came out. I've been on the ride ever since. I'm firmly planted in denial

I was in the sixth grade at the Minnesota zoo and I heard Controversy coming from some kid's headphones....it had already been out for quite some time and then a little later, I started seeing videos from the 1999 album...

Controvery just blew me away. I had heard of Prince and I Wanna Be Your Lover but it wasn't until Controversy that I started spendin' the dollas' His sound back then was so unique and different that I knew he was going to be a force in music.

First time was on TV, 1999 video. Must've been the look and the sound all put together that did it for me.

My family says it started in the womb. My brother had a Prince tape in his walkman, and put the headphones on my mother's belly. I've been a fan ever since. I actually think I became a fan when I was 1 year old when my parents took my brothers and I to see Purple Rain. JERKIN' EVERYTHING IN SIGHT!!!!!

I can honestly say that for me it was the music. I heard "It's Gonna Be Lonely" on the radio, late one night when I was a kid and fell hard. (Thanks Mojo!) I didn't actually get to see what he looked like until "Controversy" came out, then I knew I was in for life!

I heard Little Red Corvette back when it came out, and loved it. I remember taping it (through the air, no less) from the radio. I played that tape OVER and OVER . . .
Then, for our 6th grade talent show, our music teacher had us perform 1999 (as a class). Then, Purple Rain came out -- I saw the movie first, then got the LP, then got 1999 (the album) for Christmas. I was hooked, the rest is history . . .

Back when I was around 11 (1983), I took a trip with friends of the family. They had a 14 year old who was already hooked on prince. I remember going to his house alot and seeing his P tapes and albums, but I never really paid attention to the songs. It wasnt until that trip, that I first heard 1999. I've been hooked ever since. I often wonder, had I not known that guy, would I have just about every album prince has done. I hardly ever see that guy anymore , but I hear from his bro that he is still a hardcore fan

his MUSIC.
it was 1979, i was 7 years old. my aunt had returned from chicago with his 2nd album. she told me that PRINCE sings I WANNA BE YOUR LOVER and that he also sang another song i liked called SOFT and WET. the photo of him on the white PEGASUS on the back of the album intrigued me also. dain-daingerous

my sister made me buy Lovesexy, because she liked Alphabet st. and she just wouldn't buy the whole album. Something made me buy the record without a doubt (and it was not the coverphoto, or perhaps it was..) I was 13 back then. I still think Lovesexy represents Prince as a very complete, interesting renewing artist. Not a very easy album to listen to, but it certainly drew me into his world of music. That's how it started.

the first thing that attracted me to prince was when my mother took me to sears and bought me the purple rain sound track. [Edited 6/29/15 12:41pm]

Honesty. I heard it on 'The Beautiful Ones' in 1989, when his involvement with BATMAN warranted a look into his other work.

My fav movie since childhood was always Batman, so I always loved all the songs of his that were put into parts of the movie when I watched it a million times. So since the age of 4 Prince always had fascinated me. I thought his music was just so unique. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.
