How can I not download the Musicology album?

Look, when this album gets released on CD, I want the full 'New CD' experience. Removing the cellophane, opening the case, inserting the CD in the machine and then taking that first listen... Aah, absolute bliss.

But it's going to be available for download before I'll be able to get it on CD. Even though it might be a only a few days, or a few weeks.

And the thought of a whole new Prince album that I can listen to within a few minutes of seeing it available for download... Hmmmm....

It's a quandary.

So I'm looking to all the other Orgers to find ways of stopping me from downloading it before receiving the CD.

Should I burn my computer? Should I put myself into a voluntary coma until the moment the CD arrives in my hands?

Help! fuse

Since you're not in the states, you unfortunately won't be goin' to a concert anytime soon, so you won't be getting a free CD that way. There has been no official announcement on when the release date for the album will be, either. So, if I were in Haystack's shoes, I'd be a freak and buy the downloads so you can enjoy the album. Then pick up the CD in a few weeks/months to enjoy the cellophane Xperience. smile

Remember, this is our friend Prince, so until you see the CD in stores, don't assume it'll show up there! Download 'em while you can.

Every time you get the urge to download musicology, pull out some of your hair with some pliers.

If you're bushy, that'll last for a couple of weeks.

If not, you'll have to start on eyelashes, ears, nose, lips, adam's apple and so on, working your way down your body.

Works for me. nod

I have some good virus material I could send you to tie up your computer for an extended period. I do like the above hair removal recommendation, though. That way you, rather than your computer, pays for your complete lack of self control. Yeah, that's it -- go for the torture. You deserve it!

If it was me i would go out and buy all the prince cd's i never had already to tide me over until the cd release of musicology.and keep the computer off 2.the experience of having a cd in your hand with the cover etc etc will always be better than downloading.Downloading to me is like having a salad without the dressing and it is'not the same without the dressing.

Anxiety

1. DON'T READ ANY THREADS ON HERE ABOUT THE ALBUM TILL YA GOT IT IN YOUR SWEATY MITTS.

Seriously. I know this sounds ridiculous and hard to do, but keep the whole damn album as much of a secret from yourself until you can get it in the format you want to experience it in. It takes less discipline than you may think, and believe me, it pays off when you can take it in without anyone else's interpretations muddying your experience.

2. Arrange with some nice person who's going to multiple Musicology concerts to send you one of their extra copies.

Sure, ya might not get it the day of, but you'll get it soon enough.

3. Just remember downloads are crap.

And even if you don't mind that, you won't get the experience of flipping through the liner notes that first time...to me, each album sounds the way the artwork looks, and that is imprinted into my beady little brain from that first listen, when I'm devouring the liner notes, reading the lyrics and various Princebonic rants, taking it all in. Don't make yerself full before dinner. Hold off a bit and you'll be glad ya did.

Kudos. Great recommendations. I'll plan to employ a similar defense relating to the tour. I'm not reading anything that is posted about it before I get to my dates. I want it to be MY experience, not the org's.

As for Haystack, I think adding in some hang nails and papercuts to the hair torture is probably a good idea. Be strong!!!

Haystack,

I understand completely!!! So much so, in fact, that I'm driving 4 hours from Charlotte, NC, to Atlanta, GA, to catch the opening night simulcast and snag a cd.

I've promised to remain a "Musicology" virgin until I can enjoy the full cd experience. Since the album will probably be available for download on March 29th — and I am as weak as water when it comes to new Prince music smile — I don't really have a choice in the matter.

Peace, David

The CD experience is the main reason I'm driving an hour to see the live broadcast of the tour. I'm on the East coast, so that means I'll get home at 2:30am on Monday night when I'm in the first few days of my new job.

But at least I'll have the new CD in hand!!!

I say we start a support group for those who want to experience the "new album" factor! Whenever one of us is breaking, we should tell the others and they will help us to resist.

I'm in a similar situation. The problem is that I'm from Spain...so who knows when the album is gonna get released here? 2008? 2009 maybe? And let's not say the tour, which may not even stop here...

Prince release the album soon. Worldwide!

Fight the urge to download! Don't do it!

I agree with most of you: getting the actual CD, opening the case, seeing the CD label artwork as well as flipping through the liner notes . . it's all part of the "experience" of a new album. Resisting the urge to skip through tracks, wondering which songs are ballads, rock tunes or funk workouts . . .

I can't wait! March 29th, the live broadcast, each person is supposed to get the CD on the way out . . .

biggrin

Y'all crazy. I'ma wrap my cat in cellophane and just download the thang.

(Well, if I lived in a city where there was a screening, or if there was a screening city within 2 hours, I'd wait, too. But, too bad...the cat gets it.)

I'm in the same situation as you guys. i really wanna resist the temptation of downloading the lp. I also wanna resist reading reviews at the org until i've heard it. But i can't honestly say i have the strength to do either. How sad is that?!

Maybe... together... we'll get through this. Stay strong.

I did this with N.E.W.S last summer. I resisted downloading those preview MP3s, and just waited for the album to show up at my door. Finally listening to it after all that time was a bit anti-climatic, I'm sad to say (Although I do like N.E.W.S a little better now. It's good reading music.).

I wonder if I'll get a second copy of Musicology on the 29th since I bought two tickets? If I can't find a friend who wants it, I'd be happy to hook up an international orger with it!

I'm pretty confident Musicology will appear in out local outlets not son long after. It wasn't that long that n.e.w.s. was in the shops (even here in Australia) after seeing the ads on npgmc. I just went to HMV one day and there it was. So it won't be too long anyway. smile
