The saddest point is....when you start getting bootlegs..you start hearing the "uncut" versions of the songs...."computer blue...the 11 min one"..."the beautiful ones....long version" and "darling nikki....unreleased version"....you start wishing that someone would make the album the WAY IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE....with the inclusion of "Electric Intercourse" and "Father's song" (NOT "GOD") The B-sides also!!! (12" versions, of course)
i see what you mean but to be honest i think thats the way records should be, put the most concise punchy thing on the record (i mean obviously you can still do big long songs etc) and then do em live the way you probably originally jammed them in the studio, ie 8 minutes with big solo's etc. at the end of the day, the public buy the record and most of them want a concise album and not a big long opus, that alienates too much of the common public. plus, the hardcore go to all the gigs, get all the boots, and then see for themselves, most of the public dont care for that shit as for purple rain, its funny, i got into that album first after the very best of. fucking loved it (though funnily didnt get into i would die 4 u until it was covered by space cowboy and was played in clubs, any prince to dance to was good enough for me!) then got the batman album of all things, and liked that more for ages! i just loved the little sounds on that one, like the 3 or 4 riffs going at once on vicky waiting. now i like purple rain more but batman always has a space in my heart for making me a prince semi-obsessive!

hey I have a question about this: I have the original Purple Rain album on purple vinyl (including the poster), do U guys/gals have any idea how much it is worth nowadays? not that I even consider selling it, just curious ....and 2 come back 2 the original thread theme.... GREAT ALBUM!!! The Compromise Theory:
Based on my analysis, I believe the government faked the plane crash and demolished the WTC North Tower with explosives. The South Tower, in a simultaneous but unrelated plot was brought down by actual terrorists. Is it a deal?

Seriously, some of us are simply tired of hearing about the "golden years" and how "you're sorry" blah, blah, blah.... Try to place your comments in another context (say, some fat, rich, botoxed baby-boomer telling you how the 60's were the shit and forget about what came after) and you might get my point. *****************************************
