Pitchfork's not-so-favorable review of Foo Fighters 'Darling Nikki' cover

http://www.pitchforkmedia...3-04.shtml

Foo Fighters: "Darling Nikki"
Okay, so Dave Grohl appears to have pretty good taste in music. However, not all of his faves are within his grasp as a performer. Prince's classic freaky baroque-funk track from Purple Rain is miscast here as an alt-rock stadium showstopper, though given Prince's own sense of arena glory, Grohl was hardly committing blasphemy by turning up the guitars and big drums. Still, sometimes I get the feeling he's a little embarrassed by the whole masturbating-with-a-magazine thing, and when he calls Nikki out as a "sex fiend," it barely registers as a muttering under his breath. I doubt Nikki much goes for grunge, and she certainly shouldn't be interested in being the subject of such a clean, commercial-friendly rock exercise. In fact, Prince's version probably made her grind almost as much as that mag did, and I know he's got a better handle on thrashy sex than Grohl does. Oh well, back to the hotel lobby. I disagree with this review. I think their cover is pretty decent. What do you think?

Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

It's a great cover and it's gotten lots of airplay. A video would be cool.

I also disagree with this review. I think that the song sounds tame because so many songs these days are much more racy.

I liked this cover a lot. They showed respect for PrinceĀ“s version and still added their style.

It's a fun/decent cover for a band not known for funkiness. I think it's done with affection and respect for Prince, as Grohl has given respect to Prince in the past.

Video would be hilarious!

I agree with the review. I'm a Foo fan and was expecting more crunch and a little more heart.

Its a decent cover. I prefer the Foo's cover of "Drive Me Wild" personally.
