negative response 2 andykeens GENIUS thread..... i read andykeens genius thread , i'd say andy is real keen on prince just now ! he is quite young and i felt he did his best, 2 show his appreciation 4 ol princey !
there was a bit of negativity even from one o the mod's on here, which i was quite surprised at !!!...i'd say imo, p is without doubt a musical genius ! he's even been described as some kind o living mozart ! we all kno he recorded his 1st album 4 w/b producing himself supposedly 1st ever artist 2 do so ! we all kno his body of work ! here's a snippet from a book ive been reading "slave 2 the rhythm - by liz jones" p's carrear from 77-98. in 1977 a shy teenager with an afro and an attitude signed a record deal.more than twenty years and twenty remarkable albums later,the man who used 2 b prince is still making music and hitting the headlines.one of the last great superstars ,he has crossed boundaries of race and sex, created a brand-new sound and earned a reputation as a legendary lve performer ! on 4th april 1987 melody makers ted mico closed his review of sott ...."i'd alway's wondered what god did after his tea-break on the eighth day. truly this man is a genius !!!" i was watching a video i hadnt seen in a long time and MAVIS STAPLES said prince was a genius ! he was described generally throughout this documentary as a musical genius ! only recently on his tour of australia/hong kong MACEO PARKER said prince is a genius ! he's stated himself he hears music all the time his head is constantly full of music , his studio is there so he can constantly record , he awakes in the middle o the night calls in the band to lay down some tracks.... eric leeds said he's been known 2 work 24 hours straight he just recycles one engineer after another !!! levi said he wrote the lyrics 2 love thy will b done in 20 minutes and had the whole song done and dusted in half an hour !!! this is the same guy who invested $10million 2 have his own recording studio who constantly put his own money in2 his art like no other musician ever has. it also said in the documentary if he had blown $10million on sex drug's and rock n roll peeps woulda said , hey thats rock stars for you !!! but prince blew his money on paisley park, videos and proteges it stated he spent $2million on carmen electra's video shoots and album, i'm not saying he's the greatest businessman now !!! lol... just pointing out its all about the music for prince !!! he gave us , prince,dirty mind,1999, purple rain, atwiad, parade, sott, lovesexy/black, d + p, the gold x, emancipation, crystall ball, truth, ona piano /ona live !!!, xpectation , trc, news. now go dig out around the world in a day....track 8 THE LADDER, LAY BACK LISTEN ..... come back and tell me prince is not a genius !!! | |

Good Points...there is nothing wrong with a new fan getting into Prince and realizing that he is such a genius. I'm 26 and I REALLY got into Prince around 17/18 when the Gold Experience was released. After listening to that album and collecting all of his back catalog, I realized how much of a genius Prince is. The sad thing about this site is the large number of assholes that are so snobbish, criticizing a person for not being like HE used to be. Not like something they did, no they complain because HE changed. Like he was borrowing their talents, or changing the albums they worked on. A few people on this site gripe and complain and bitch and moan about every little thing. They can't handle the fact that Prince has aged and his views/music has changed. It happens to all legendary musicians. They have their creative peaks, years when they can do no wrong and then they come back to earth. I'm so tired of people complaining that Prince will never make another SOTT, well guess what, Stevie Wonder never made another Songs In The Key of Life and he is still a legend. The hatred and criticism expressed on this board is sad and laughable. For all those that claim that Prince is dead and he is basically no good since he can't make another Parade, Dirty Mind, etc., here is something I want you to think about: It's better to be a has been than a never was. Prince will be remembered forever. His legacy will live on no matter what we sit and gripe about on these boards.(By the way he doesn't really know we exist, he knows of the collective fan, people in the crowds at concerts, but he doesn't know us individually) If I were blessed with his musical abilities I would be happy for half the success/impact that he's had worldwide. Hey complainers, will you be remembered for anything other than an opinion? | |

why, are we mods supposed to keep all negative opinions to ourselves or sumfin?  is there some sorta unwritten law on the Great Wall of Org that says that moderators can't say anything about prince that don't show 'im in some sorta spotlight?

it is strange that on a prince site
there are so many anti-prince comments criticism is one thing, but constant negativity solves nothing prince is a genius he's not perfect, but his artistry and creative vision is extrordinary | |

'Genius' is an over used word thrown around like confetti. It most definately could be used genuinely to describe Prince back in the 80's, i'm not sure it's applicable any longer or has been for a number of years. He's hardly doing anything new or remotely innovative now is he?

Doesnt anyone grasp the concept of different musical tastes? I consider myself a huge Prince fan but Im probably the only one on here who doesnt think Sign O The Times is his best album.. Its probably not in my top 5. However I love NPS, Rave, Prince, For You....etc.. My point is, because of the fact that Prince is so dynamic. Everyone can listen to him and get something totally different from it. Different life experiences can cause people to "get" something that others may not.. I listen to the ONA piano album and it gives me chills.. But yet it gets ripped apart on here often..
I understand that my opinion doesnt matter, but thats kinda my point.. appreciate each others differences.. Accept that what you may think I may not.. But for some reason were all on here for one person.. | |

Is Stevie Wonder no longer a genius because he's long past his 1970's brilliant streak? Was Miles Davis no longer a genius because his "old-school" fans couldn't get into his fusion work? Your personal taste and ideas do not speak for everyone. | |

Yes there are some very strange old Prince fans around here that are completly elitest. So when anybody comes here and says they like new Prince music or anything from the 90's they completly shit on them and Prince. I mean you have some people around here that will tell you that Prince had no hits in the 90's or released nothing for consequence. Can you believe that? Basically you just have to keep on going with what you belive in as far as his music is concerned. I have made this point time and time again on this site. Prince has evolved and grown. He is no longer the Prince of Dirty Mind he is no longer the Prince of SOTT he is the Prince of The Rainbow Children and NEWS and now Musicology. Either you can hang or you can't. If you can't cool but why get on here and bitch to those of us who love this man and his music? I have the answer to that but I don't have anywhere near the time I need to explain it now. ----- As a moderator you should have a little understanding of popular music. If you got on this board and said the Partridge family was musical genius. Than I would think you had serious problems with yourself and you would get negative feedback. This is Prince fan board and little knowlegde would be nice. | |

A few people on this site gripe and complain and bitch and moan about every little thing. They can't handle the fact that Prince has aged and his views/music has changed. It happens to all legendary musicians. They have their creative peaks, years when they can do no wrong and then they come back to earth. I'm so tired of people complaining that Prince will never make another SOTT, well guess what, Stevie Wonder never made another Songs In The Key of Life and he is still a legend. The hatred and criticism expressed on this board is sad and laughable. For all those that claim that Prince is dead and he is basically no good since he can't make another Parade, Dirty Mind, etc., here is something I want you to think about: It's better to be a has been than a never was. Prince will be remembered forever. His legacy will live on no matter what we sit and gripe about on these boards.(By the way he doesn't really know we exist, he knows of the collective fan, people in the crowds at concerts, but he doesn't know us individually) If I were blessed with his musical abilities I would be happy for half the success/impact that he's had worldwide. Hey complainers, will you be remembered for anything other than an opinion? Gospel! Gospel! Gospel! Thank you for that post the both of you! Yes there are some very strange old Prince fans around here that are completly elitest. So when anybody comes here and says they like new Prince music or anything from the 90's they completly shit on them and Prince. I mean you have some people around here that will tell you that Prince had no hits in the 90's or released nothing for consequence. Can you believe that? Basically you just have to keep on going with what you belive in as far as his music is concerned. I have made this point time and time again on this site. Prince has evolved and grown. He is no longer the Prince of Dirty Mind he is no longer the Prince of SOTT he is the Prince of The Rainbow Children and NEWS and now Musicology. Either you can hang or you can't. If you can't cool but why get on here and bitch to those of us who love this man and his music? I have the answer to that but I don't have anywhere near the time I need to explain it now. I'm telling there is no justice around here , I feel the black lash that some of what andy keen was getting, but it's a good though. I have the right 2 be here just as anybody else. No body is better then me, don't care how long you been a fan. Dayum people where is da love ? I can see why Prince is trying 2 create a new fan base. So I know exactly what ur talking about
