For reliable Usenet access and downlad, invest in a service such as Easynews. ISPs often permit Usenet access and common browsers can be used to download files, but it's hit and miss.

For reliability, invest in a news service for Usenet access, such as Easynews.

I can already access newgroups through my ISP, do i have to pay for a service to download actual files from the groups?

No, you don't necessarily have to pay but using a news service is much more reliable. Using something like Outlook Express is clumsy and you won't necessarily be able to view the results even if you manage to download all of the files.

And a good news reader service is much more reliable for sorting and storing files than ISPs.
