Bad choices for singles; bad timing for single and album releases and tours (many examples cited in earlier replies);

In general, never fully capitalizing on his newly-won freedom after his WB contract ended. He had PP (his own studio), plenty of money, a seemingly endless supply of creativity, and then the internet became available...but it just seems like it was never as good as it could have been. I mean, he's put together and released some good stuff since then, but things seemed a bit disorganized; for example, there were all those projects that never came to fruition... I agree with other posts above, he needs someone to provide checks and balances, to say "no" or "this won't make a good first single, that will" or "it's not the time to release that," etc. Maybe he'd actually do BETTER with a little structure imposed on him? Most ppl seem to feel that his best work came out while he was signed to WB. Without it, though he's had complete freedom, he's fallen at least somewhat short of his potential.

i wouldn't change a thing. U shouldn't have regrets in life, even though at some point u do, but hey u could worry about your regrets and be so stressed about it that u feel like killing someone or just say hey it was a mistake and move on.
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I also think not performing at WE ARE THE WORLD hurt him

I strongly disagree. Prince is very shy and self-concious. He would have probably freaked out if he went to a party (let alone a recording session) with all of those giants. He would have freaked out and the incident would have hurt him even more.

Many of the decisions that hindered his career were his to make. If he wanted to make ATWIAD 2 days after PR came out, that's his perogative. If he wan't to change his name to prince, that's his perogative. What I really fault him for is writing slave on his face. I'm not sayin that Prince shouldn't have been on a mission to get his mastedrs back, but to equate his position with someone who worked for NO money and little food, got whipped and tortured if he didn't work hard enough, someone who's wives or friends got raped on a regular basis, is morally irresponsible to me and should have never hapened. There were probably many other ways to demonstrate his argument. I wasn't a slave, and that fool was better off than me...WAY better off. I bet if you asked him 2day, he probably regrets doing that to a degree.

01. Disbanding the Revolution permanently;
02. Graffiti Bridge;
03. Conversion to Jehovah's Witness thing;
04. The New Power Generation band-name - in fact most of the band (during the 90s);
05. Not releasing any classic B-Sides in the nineties;
06. The New Power Generation song - but especially the Maxi Single. I hate that fucking Maxi Single except for 'Loveleft, Loveright';
07. 1999: The New Master;
08. Having a hairdo during the D&P/prince era which resembled Sybil Fawlty's;
09. Most of his 90s albums except for Newpower Soul;
10. Distancing himself from Paisley Park.

JW has tainted all his music for me for years. I'm just thankful the internet came along and opened up the Vault.

It's been a odd time. Enjoying so much old unreleased work while ignoring his current work. I guess I can always hope that change being a constant with Prince will take him off the JW path in the future.

#1 I wish he could have made things work with WB so there would not have been all that nineties drama. Just a steady stream of well produced CDs

#2 Not releasing " So Far, So Pleased" as the first single in the Rave CD.

He would have never became a Jehovah Witness..Not that i have anything against them..My aunt's one.. cool..just like gwyndavies16 said..It was a mistake and also like spectulator3m said..It has tainted his music for me also, every since he became one. AND LIKE NPGSTYYLE said.. He is always preachin' to people..i mean..let people believe what they want to believe.. you don't have to go preachin' like a maniac trying to hip people to your religion..
Me myself, I'm Christian but real sprititual also..and even though the Christian Bible says go spread the word..My preacher does enough of that.. Why push people?? I'm not a very pushy person.. *cute***

NOBODY SAID TONY M?

1.Tony M
2. Tony M
3. Tony M

AMEN! Most of the "undo"'s on my list have to do with Prince's career, but Tony M's raps are musical atrocities. The rest of my list:
4. Releasing Emacipation as three discs Who, besides us, the die-hards, is going to buy, much less actually sit through three hours of artistic masturbation. There are some stellar tunes scattered throughout to be sure, and Emancipation could have been one amazing disc at a time when Prince had the media's attention (his first independent release and all). Which was Prince's biggest problem throughout the 90's, no quality control. What does every positive review of Musicology mention? How concise it is, how tight. I'm a huge Prince fan, but not everything the man puts down is worth paying for. How often do any of us sit down and slog through Crystal Ball? (i tried recently, and by minute 8 of "Cloreen Bacon Skin" had to give up). Oh, and "Betcha By Golly Wow"? Ugh (does anyone remember that video? Double ugh).
5. TGRES as lead single off Rave instead of SFSP Here's Prince in an almost embarasingly blatant come-back attempt, and he leads off with one of the most generic ballads he's ever written. So Far, So Pleased was a perfect pop duet with an (at the time) immensely popular star that could have generated real interest.
6. Those Kirsty Alley segues on the symbol album. Prince at his most pretentious.
7. Making the CD of Lovesexy all one track. Not a career killer or anything, just really f'n annoying!
8. Dead On It. If I could erase one Prince song from the history music, it would have to be this one.

Oh, and could someone please explain what happened with "TGE"? I wasn't even into Prince back then, but seem to remeber TMBGITW in the world being a monster hit. It's such a great albulm. What happened?

Mis-assigning priorities and neglecting pressing personal spiritual concerns and true friends. Music should not be one's god. Afterall, who was the archangel over the throne of God and in charge of worship music? Hmm. Know when to set it down lest it destroy you and those around you.

1. The prince name change, slave on his face deal. WB gave him $100 mil for a record deal. How many other artists were getting money like that for record deals at that time?He had some valid gripes, but taking the battle so public and an ugly way was the wrong approach.

2. Not taking full advantage of his Emancipation from WB.

He seems to be doing ok without me breaking out the Delorean and changing history. It's all part of the journey.

Not to get too Zen on yall, but if he hadn't gone through some of that crazy shit in the past he might still have it in his future. The current state of affairs suggest that he has learned from whatever mistakes he has made in the past and now he's at a point 25 years into his career where he may actually have one of the hottest albums out right now while some of his contemperaries are just trying to stay out of jail. So all things considered, I'll learn a lesson for the great Marty McFly and leave Prince's history alone.

While PPark studios may have been a monumental success for any other artist to achieve-does any such equivalent exsist with another artist on such a scale?- the releases from the PPark label wer such a waste.
