Good Love

Good Love turns 16 today, released on the Bright Lights, Big City soundtrack on March 8, 1988.

What do you think of this track? Have you seen the movie? Does the song fit in context?

To me, this song is pop-lite that I only like at certain times. It's fun, playful and light - I guess that's all it's meant to be. On the Camille album, it fits perfectly. On Crystal Ball, it seemed out of place (what was up with having a different edit anyway?).

never really liked it when it came out. the camille voice and bare-bones beat got tired after 1987.i remember thinking, "i hope this isn't what his new album (lovesexy) is going to be like."
the CB version, although shorter, sounds much better. good re-master.

Like it or not, there's nothing like "Good Love" out there by any other artist. It's one of those tracks where Prince's originality as a music maker really comes through.

I first heard "Good Love" on an Atlanta radio station in '88. The station I happened to be listening to at the time had some goofy FM radio thing going on at the time where they swapped the DJs from the top 40 station with the DJs from the country music station. I DISTINCTLY remember the country station DJs introducing the song. They said, "And next, we've got a new song from some guy named Prince. But, judging by the picture I'm looking at, he really ought to be called 'Queen.'" They then played "Good Love" and didn't say what album it was from. I assumed it was from Lovesexy, and I didn't find it on the movie soundtrack until about a year later.

Co-Sign. thumbs up! I love this song from the very beginning. Brings backt to me light memories of the summer of '88. And I never really NEVER get tired of this song. Every time I listen to it, it gives me a lot of joy. The song is original and simply fun!

lol. I wonder if there was a promo of this at the time? The album (or at least the CD) doesn't have pictures of any of the artists, so I wonder which picture he was looking at - it was too early for the Lovesexy cover (which would seem to fit his comment).

Good question -- I guess Prince has never looked more like a woman then during the Lovesexy era, but I didn't think there ever was a "Good Love" promo single that would have a photo.
